We called in around 5pm on a Saturday to see if we could get an evening meal without booking, very pleased to say we had a very pleasant couple of hours. The food was delicious, and we all agreed the service was excellent, a lovely relaxed, professional and friendly atmosphere. Thank you and well done.

We took advantage of the “Spring Fling” offer for an overnight stay with meals included. We were very impressed with every aspect of our visit and will definitely return for similar deals. The service was impeccable, room was luxurious and the evening meal & breakfast was “blasus iawn!” We had the Price Fixe menu - a great choice and very good value, especially as vegetarian options could be selected from the main menu. We also enjoyed cocktails in the busy bar and met and chatted with other guests who were also enjoying their stay. Due to the popularity of this venue we would recommend booking meals. A lovely treat. Not to be missed. Diolch yn fawr!

We had a delicious high tea on Sunday afternoon. Staff were all very friendly and professional. The warm scones were scrumptious. All the food was so fresh and tasty. The tea that we had to drink was very fresh and a lovely flavour. Lovely atmosphere in the room. We will be back. Thank you. Gary and Penny.

We were shopping in Abergavenny today and walked past the Angel advertising Sunday lunches. We thought it was unlikely we'd get a table because the restaurant looked busy but called in on the off chance. Without hesitation, the very charming maitre d offered us a table in the bar which was perfect . We ordered lunch which came swiftly and was delicious! Special mention to the staff who were friendly and accomodating. Next time we're in Abergavenny we'll make sure we return - although we may book first to ensure we can get in.

I visited The Angel on Friday 29th February 2024. After an initial very awkward conversation on the phone to book a High Tea treat for my great auntie as a thank you for her support recently, and I asked if my mother could accompany us who has severe allergies - initially I was told that she would be “expected to eat if she was siting with us”, however after explaining that her allergies are so severe and is advised by her consultant to not eat outside due to the risk of contamination they allowed an extra seat to be added to our table. When we sat down at our table the waiter’s attitude was very sarcastic/arrogant. Despite explaining on the phone that my mother wouldn’t be able to eat or drink anything - he insisted on giving her a menu and passing a few comments and eye rolls that she “couldn’t even drink tea”. The food was outstanding and the selection of tea was tremendous but this was all overshadowed by the service we received around 1 member of the party who couldn’t eat but wanted to be able to join us for a special occasion. To top of the visit, when I bit into my scone I discovered a bit of plastic (see pictures), when I called the waiter over to highlight it to the kitchen, he said words to the effect of “thank you for telling me” he offered me another scone and walked off without taking my plate to show the kitchen! I have bought High Tea for Two as a gift for another family member, but I after our experience this week I shall not be recommending or returning them very disappointed.

We visited the Angel for a Saturday lunch in the bar area. We ordered the Turkey dinner at £28 a head. It arrived occupying half the plate in an attempt to look stylish with gravy on the side, No vegetables, apart from a small pile of shredded cabbage and a fried potato “stick” about the size of a fish finger. Very disappointing as we were expecting some vegetables and a few roasties. It arrived within a couple of minutes of ordering so assume it is assembled in the kitchen in rapid fashion and to avoid having to go to the effort of cooking some veg. Have upgraded the review to two stars as the mince pies were excellent and coffee decent. Service was pleasant so it was not a complete disaster.

Nice looking hotel, but when my friend and stepped in for an early evening drink (1 medium size glass of red wine each) the tariff was £23. The wine was very drinkable - but if I had seen the prices beforehand I would have left. We noted they were advertising an evening meal at £50 for two courses which seemed very reasonable, but after the wine experience were not tempted to stay
