My stay at the Alexandra hotel was amazing such friendly staff great atmosphere lovely rooms amazing food couldn’t ask for better. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Can’t wait to be back there in August for my next stay and also it’s so amazing to be able to be sitting out on that beautiful balcony looking at those great views of the town

Lovely renovated rooms, friendly staff. But the noise! Music Wed to Sun, incl live bands to 1.30am. If you want a bit of a late party night, this is the place for you. If you want a quiet, peaceful night, look elsewhere - esp if you need a good rest while riding the GVRT. While the hotel notes the noise (mainly about guests leaving rather than the music) on their website, we booked via a third-party booking agent and there was no mention about the music going to late. It's obviously a balance running an entertainment venue and accommodation, but for guests paying for accommodation, the noise means you'll probably have a pretty unpleasant experience.

We stayed at this hotel in 2022, when it was owned and run by a beautiful young couple. The husband was the chef and wife was front of house. In 2022 it was the most beautiful stay and the most beautiful dinner!! A memory we will never forget! Upon arrival today, we were shocked of the state of this beautiful hotel, it is very much like a public bar that has lost all its charm. After checking in we walked up the dark dreary stairs, opened the door of our room that had not been made up from the previous guests and filthy. We did not stay and asked for a refund. The entire website represents what the previous owners created, it is now nothing like it was! So disappointing!

My husband & I arrived in the early evening on Friday the 17th of November, no one was willing to help us with the check-in process. A young waitress took us into the main front bar and the Head Barman didn’t want to assist. He told the young waitress to pass it onto a young lad at the other end of the bar. He took our names, gave us the keys, quick directions and that was it. We booked the Queen room out the back of the pub, $160 per night $320 total stay. The room was not anything like what it was described on your website. I was never told it was near the main kitchen where it was so noisy. It was Room 6, and pictures of our Queen Room on the ground floor have been provided. It certainly was not worth $320.00, it was an absolute dump. Our entrance door was surrounded by cigarette butts, overflowing ashtrays on the side, dishes left on trays outside other doors which did not get picked up for 1 1/2 days. There were no Toiletries provided and no desk either, yet it stated it on the features of the booking on the hotel website. Your website description of the Room says, Lovely Queen Private Room, it was not lovely, it was disgusting. THIS IS FALSE ADVERTISING. Nothing had been turned on, the minibar fridge was filthy inside, dirt and brown stains appeared in all parts of the small fridge, the microwave was dirty on all 4 insides, the cutlery and glassware were dirty, there was a white filtered cigarette butt on the rug and nothing had been vacuumed, your windows sills had dirt n dust and had not been wiped down, the mirrors in the bathroom had rust on the bottom of the base and there were splash marks on the mirror over the sink. The only clean items were the white towels, and the sheets on the bed. Didn’t want to use your shower, as the place had not been sanitised or cleaned properly, we didn’t want to take a chance. On both evenings when we left to go out for dinner, your Head Kitchen Chef was always sitting outside our front door, smoking his cigarettes and drinking his VB cans. He was too close to our Front Door. Each time we went out &/or returned to our room, he would give us a disgusted look. Why he was doing that, I have no idea, yet his continuous smoking was seeping through our front entrance door and it was very unpleasant. We won’t be coming back.

We drove to Alex specifically to dine here and was not disappointed. A small but fabulous menu with mostly local produce and superbly prepared by chef Patrick. The wine list is also features a number of local wines. Winner of both state and national tourism awards, this has got to be one of regional Victoria’s best hotel restaurant. We stayed at their charming recently renovated Summerlands cottage which is easy walking distance to the hotel. Our thanks Jackie and Patrick for a very special experience.

Wow. Talk about a step back in time. This gorgeous 1903 hotel in quaint Alexandra is a real treasure. It's like stepping back in time to the era of "Marvellous Melbourne" when Victoria was the richest place on earth during the gold rush days. The service was incredible and their fine dining restaurant and impressive wine list really was first class. Bed was comfy but only negative is being an old hotel it does creak a bit during the night - especially if you cop a windy night as we did - so if you are light sleeper you might struggle. But that is a small price to pay for a trip back into a bygone era of style and elegance.

We were a party of eight - two elderly adults, two adults and four children aged from 3 to 9 - potential recipe for disaster in an elegant restaurant. We wisely ate early. The food was delightful - and choices to suit us all. Vegetables cooked well and tasty as well. Atmosphere friendly and helpful. Very satisfied.

Located in the heart of Alexandra, this small hotel caters to those who want a more intermate experience than a motel. Be warned that the rooms are small with very small en-suites, but clean and tastefully furnished. The restaurant is popular with locals, so book ahead - its worth it and the breakfasts are also a delight. IF you are doing the Victorian cycle trail, they also provide a cycle lockup with charging points for the ebikes - we would stay here again.
