Hotel Calabona

Great location and offers free shuttle to town. Breakfast is excellent. However they charge you 15€ for parking per day on premises and 3€ for use of towels at the pool. Should be free since this is a category 4 star hotel.

We had a lovely late in the season stay at Calabona - the staff are very friendly and could not do enough for us, particularly the barman Gigi who mixed us lots of different cocktails. The hotel was really quiet as they shut this week for the season, but we loved the tranquillity. There is a lovely pool area that sells poolside drinks and a mini beach a few steps from the hotel where you can get an amazing sunset. We didn’t realise how close the sea was to the hotel so this was a real plus! You can get some lovely coastal walks directly from the hotel. The room was great - huge TV! Also the balcony had amazing views. Finally, the breakfast was great. Pancakes, omelette and fresh honeycomb to name a few of the foods on offer! Something that we would have found helpful would be more snacks/range of food at the bar. The hotel is fairly far from any shops so this could have been helpful in situations where we weren’t able to leave the hotel - there was a storm during our stay.

This hotel is dated but…. It’s location, the staff and the views make up for what it lacks in decor etc. if you need a hairdryer ask for one on check in - the dryer in the room is an absolute disaster! Breakfast is basic enough but the lady making ham and cheese omelettes and the various fresh juices is an absolute Gem. The pool is lovey and cool and the sun Beds and towels readily available. The beach is tiny and very pebbly so we went to a little local beach about 5km out the Bosa road. Lovely place quiet with a little restaurant there. There is a parking charge of €15 per night for hotel car park but free roadside public parking at the back entrance which they do tell you about on check in. Overall the staff made the experience. Maria and Davide on reception were a great help recommending Stintino to us for a day trip. Thank you

This hotel was very disappointing, it was advertised with a private beach including free sunbeds and umbrellas. These were all removed 1/10/23, the day we arrived when the hotel was full of guests. The beach was tiny and very dirty. The sand was full of sea****. When we complained about this we were told to put down a towel on this dirty area if we wished to lay out. The pool towels are charged 3 euro per towel which is not refundable and this is charged very time you request a fresh towel. This hotel is very shabby. From our 4th floor balcony we had a partial view of the sea but our main view was of a graffiti wall opposite the hotel & the sea. The bedroom was dark and no sunlight all day, the decoration and paintwork was very tired. This hotel badly needs to be refurbished. The staff were nice and helpful. We stayed 4 nights here and but could not stick it any longer and requested a move to another hotel which was wonderful. This hotel is located about 20 mins walking outside the old town. The hotel do provide a mini bus into the town in the afternoon and evening. There are no facilities around this hotel. Not a shop, bar or restaurant nearby. The restaurant in the hotel is very limited and expensive.It also doubles as the bar which was in the outside beside the pool. The hotel is located in a residential area overlooked by a derelict apartment block. Breakfast was located in a basement room which was dark and gloomy. The choice of food was very limited, nothing was kept hot. The fruit was poor which kept running out. The staff were nice. The photo shots of the hotel advertised were certainly paint bushed. No at all the same in reality. We would not return to this hotel ever and would not recommend it to others.

Have just returned from a week's stay here and must say we were very happy with the hotel. Rooms were very clean and comfortable with housekeeping everyday, breakfast was superb with a great range of fruit, cereals, pastries etc as well as eggs cooked on demand. The staff were excellent, always friendly and very helpful. They helped us arrange car hire while we were there. The hotel is about 20 minutes walk from the old town but the shuttle bus service as described elsewhere is very efficient. It runs in the early afternoon and again in the late evening/night. Overall, very satisfied!

First time for a child free break in over 7 years so we really wanted to make the most of it. We came to Hotel Calabona after a recommendation from a colleague From start to finish the whole experience was too class. From check in, breakfasts, drinks and lunch by the pool. The hotel is typically Italian, charming, slightly odd fashioned but absolutely spotless. Our room was modern, with a very comfortable bed, fabulous bathroom with a massive shower, a sitting room and two balconies. The staff, all of them, were so friendly, nothing was a problem. The pool and little beach are both great The hotel is a bit of a walk from the old town but there is a shuttle that goes back and forth every 10-15 mins. The walk is very pleasant along a coastal path so we were happy to stroll back most evening. All in all we had a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back again

My friend and I have just returned from ten days at this lovely hotel which is faultless, absolute perfection. Newly renovated rooms, very clean, plenty of choice at breakfast, poolside bistro and bar, with pretty private beach and free sun beds. Situated in a quiet location, walking distance from the main town but a free courtesy bus runs every 15 minutes throughout the day and evening. The staff are all brilliant, helpful, polite with happy smiling faces. Would reccomend. " welcome to the hotel Calabona - such a lovely place, such a lovely place". Thanks all.

We stayed in this hotel for 9 nights in September 2023. We booked via a travel agency and they highly recommend it. The main part of the hotel is quite traditional, but the rooms are fresh and bright with comfortable beds. However, the breakfast is just awful, the same crap day in day out. No fresh fruit or fresh fruit juice, very disappointed. Breakfast came as part of our package but I do believe it’s €18 per head. Not worth it at all. Personally, I only had it on our first morning and never went back. Lunch is not much better in the pool bar, very basic and very over charged. We got chicken from the grill, which was very undercooked, in fact it was red. I would avoid eating in this hotel. It is worth the walk into Alghero for lunch and dinner. They do have a courtesy bus which is very regular, every 10 minutes. But it only takes 6 people at a time so you could be waiting 10 / 20 minutes. It is worth the walk into Alghero, along the coastline, if you have comfortable shoes and the energy. I would never go back to this hotel but would return to Sardina.
