Hotel Okura Amsterdam – the Leading Hotels of the World

Amsterdam Oud Zuid Amsterdam|2.96km from Sportpark De Schinkel
We decided to splurge on this 5 star hotel for a long anticipated family reunion. Unfortunately the experience was marred by a series of disappointments caused by utterly incompetent hotel staff. When I called ahead on the day of our arrival to request an early check-in the hotel rep. sternly informed me that I would have to pay a 120 Euro charge for the privilege! We are experienced travelers and never have we encountered such a demand. We took our chances regardless and decided to show up 2 hours early. Sure enough, our room was already ready and we were allowed to occupy it at no extra charge. Things really started to go south when a limousine that I had arranged for separate airport pickup of my daughter’s family through the concierge showed up at the airport unequipped with a baby car seat. I had expressly requested this when I booked the service. This was also specified in the booking confirmation sent by email to me by the concierge. The reaction I later got when I complained to the concierge was that I was not charged extra for the baby seat - as if this was the main issue! Furthermore, this was the first time that I was informed of such a charge, as no mention of this had been made in the email confirmation of the limo reservation which I originally received from the concierge. More importantly, what is more concerning is the utter indifference he showed for the safety of a guest’s infant grandchild. All that concerned him was the money angle to the failure. Things soon got worse. When we checked into our room we lifted the bed cover to discover several hairs and multiple red and yellow stains. Unbelievably, the chambermaid had neglected to change the bedsheets. This, in a 5 star hotel! After we called reception, staff was quickly sent to our room to change them. We never heard further from management about this. We later had dinner at Serre restaurant onsite and left the place hungry. The chef seems to focus on presentation and less on the reasonableness of the portions. My wife had a fish main course which was equivalent to 3 forkfuls. The minuscule dessert was pretty to look at but was grossly inadequate even for one person. The restaurant style is a throwback to the old Nouvelle Cuisine school. For the icing on the cake: a voucher for a round of drinks on the house at the rooftop bar that the guest services manager had kindly given me was bungled by the bar staff. When I arrived home I discovered a mysterious charge of 66 Euros by the Twenty-Third Floor Bar. The bar staff set new standards of incompetence in taking my voucher and charging me anyway.I had to call the hotel for credit but I am losing money anyway from the spread in exchange rates used by credit card companies. To be fair, the Superior View room was extremely spacious and comfortable with a magnificent view. The large pool and ample spa facilities were enjoyable and a significant convenience . Also the reception desk personnel were very professional and welco

Corendon Amsterdam New-West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Beautiful hotel in great location just outside of the city centre and close to transportation spots. Room itself was big but for as cold as Amsterdam can get would be better if the room actually got warm. Restaurant linked to it wasn’t the best can get nicer food inside main Amsterdam but for price and location it was good. They didn’t do anything special for my birthday, usually a hotel would give you a little something, so customer service wise was nothing amazing.

This hotel is in the suburbs. It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the nearest tram station. There are 1 roads 11 and 17 and you can take a 20-minute bus ride to leideseplein, which is the place where the city center can walk to the museum area. You can also take the 17th road for about 30 minutes and sit directly at the central station area. Hotel breakfast is good. The surrounding area is a bit ridiculous, basically nothing. The room was small and the two suitcases were full.

A very nice view with 180° city and canal view, very peaceful. There is a walking path behind the hotel which the view there very awesome. The hotel lobby design very trendy and artful, definitely will come back again as it is very comfort to stay here.

The front desk staff is very warm and friendly. Although the hotel is not in the city, there are 24 trams at the door (remember to buy a 24-hour bus ticket at the front desk without an OV card), which is very convenient, and the hotel has a new design and various kitchen utensils. Next to it is a supermarket with a large room. There is also a parking lot underground, suitable for self-driving people (although it is cheaper to have an Olympic OV parking lot nearby, but you need to go early, if you go in the afternoon, you need to wait in line for parking spaces). Hotel is highly recommended!

Very clean room. Lack of toiletries compare to other similar hotels (no hand body, tooth brush, shower cap). Easy check in/check out. Close to tram stop to downtown. Several supermarket nearby: Lidl and Albert Heijn.
Premier Suites Plus Amsterdam

I stayed 27 nights in the Premier Suites Plus Amsterdam during my one-month-long business trip. I was excited to stay in such a new hotel. Unexpectedly, I had to postpone my arrival for three days. One phone call to the reception and they took care that my reservation was held. Of course, I was expected to pay for those days also that I could not attend. (I understand the day rate, but taxes per day, even so, I wasn't present on those days?) On arrival, everything seemed good: personnel at the reception were nice, the room was clean and had the facilities promised. The bed was comfy, the kitchen had enough equipment so I could make various foods during the month, noise insulation between rooms and hallways was above average, and every day I walked past the reception I got greeted. Then the criticism: During the booking, I could reserve complimentary slippers and a bathrobe free of charge. These were absent from day one. Also, because I stayed for a longer period, I got free weekly cleaning service. At check-in, this was told to happen every Tuesday. I was asked to move my own stuff away for those days so the cleaning service could do their best because they are not allowed to move the resident's belongings. First week, cleaning happened on Monday. Alright, no biggie, I am better prepped next week. They followed the routine to clean rooms on Mondays. Except the last week's Monday. I asked about the situation from reception. They were shocked and apologized me countless times and promised to take the word to the cleaning service, and clean the apartment the next day. But cleaning didn't happen. Either they forgot, or the cleaning service once again forgot/did not care. The hotel had hanging cards for the door e.g. please empty trash can. I had it hanging from the moment I noticed on Monday afternoon that my room was not cleaned till next day 16:00. On Tuesday, the cleaning service did empty the trash. No apologies, or any comments. I mentioned this also during my check-out, and the reception was once again confused. More about the cleaning: I think they did nothing for the floors. They did vacuum the floors in the hallway. Why not the apartments then? In a month you do gather some dirt to the floors, especially because there are no carpets. Additionally, the quality of the cleaning varied every week. One week I got a new batch of bottled water, last two weeks I didn't. The first weeks cleaning was done during the day before 15:00 (check-in starts at that time). Second last week cleaning was ongoing after 15:00 once I arrived from work. All in all, Premier Suites Plus Amsterdam does have good location near the Amsterdam-Zuid train station (only 6 minutes to the Schiphol Airport). Also, easy connection to the city center. They had nice rooms with good amount of facilities. Still, being new is not enough to be luxurious. Problems with the cleaning service need to be resolved. Even the main lobby floor was noticeable dirtier on my depart
