Nine Skies

It was so nice to get away from the heat of the lowlands and relax in a more temperate climate. My room was very comfortable with an overstuffed armchair by my window where I could read and day dream for some time. The staff were incredible and the location is stunning. I would love to return!

Nine Skies has a wonderful setting on a hill high above the famous train tracks leading from Ella to Badulla. It's fun to be able to watch the trains pass through from the pool area. Pool is essential as Sri Lanka is generally a bit toasty. In fact, I'd suggest that the hotel put in mini-splits in the bedrooms. It definitely cools off at night and with the ceiling fan you are alright (I kept my door open all night). Staff is earnest and friendly. The food is delicious. There is some gorgeous contemporary art scattered throughout the property. Folks can play croquet on the green lawn. All in all a lovely stay here.

A bit of context first. My wife and I are in our early and late 60s respectively and generally have one ‘big holiday’ a year. While we always go ‘relatively high end’ we still look for value for money (so, for example, we still believe that ‘tips’ need to be earned but we tend to be generous when they are!). We have always booked through Scott-Dunn who always come up with a special trip that includes some amazing accommodation and are more than willing to amend the holiday to suit our specific requests. We tend to have 10 days or so sightseeing followed by 4 or 5 days relaxation Nine Skies Lodge – Ella  Located at the top of a mountain overlooking Ella – stunning and very peaceful  Only 5 rooms in a large bungalow that was once a tea plantation estate manangers houes  Superb food and typically pleasant Sri Lankan staff who looked after us very well Would definately visit again and an ideal spot for some local exploring/walking. We also did a Tea Factory Visit  Hotel organised tour – 40 minute trip then hosted by one of the Tea Factory staff for about 1 hour.  Really interested and well worth the visit - but don't worry about health and safety as you get very close to the tea making machinery!  Opportunity to buy tea before leaving Highly recommended visit

This exclusive hotel is set in an authentic tea planter's villa and carefully renovated with an eye for detail. The lawn and garden are secluded, lush and luxurious. We really felt blessed to spend two days in this place. The service is just perfect, you get a personal level of attention that we haven't experienced before (and we have been around as expats). The food was just impeccable. Several hiking trails are available in the neighbourhood, we also took a tuc-tuc to a nearby zip line. Brush up on your croquet skills :).

Our trip from Kandy to Demodara by train was magnificent and after a long day of travelling, we were welcomed by the lovely Nine Skies staff. We ate delicious food whilst overlooking the tea country landscape. Went on a walk to the Stunning Nine Arches Bridge and we even had hot water bottles placed in our beds when we came back from dinner. Will definitely visit again as there are so many activities to do and it’s such a lovely place to stay. Fiona & Siobhain

One of the best stay we had at nine skies by tear drop hotels at demodara. Love the atmosphere the scenery the cozy airy large rooms. Lovely shower and washroom area. Beautiful and clean room set ups. The staff are very helpful and hospitable. Hotel manager chaminda is very kind and helpful. Overall the entire team is very supportive and kind. I will definitely recommend this place for my friends and family. We would rate this place 10/10. The best. 🌷💕

Wonderful exclusive tea bungalow on top of tea field with beautiful garden and extraordinary service. Warm welcome with tea on the terrace, all inclusive, 24h butler service, stylish rooms, high tea, free bar, fire side in the living room, stunning view to Ella rock and Demodara railway loop from our bedroom and from terrace/garden/pool, great fresh fusion kitchen from breakfast to dinner (try naan wrap for breakfast), free laundry, smart phone with walking tours provided (great starting point for trips mz train, bike, feet), free tour to tea plant (so interesting and tasty) Service staff and management were incredibly warm, friendly, helpful, competent…they fulfilled every wish we had. Best service during our whole trip in Sri Lanka! 100% recommendation!

Beautiful property with exceptional hospitality. I’m a big fan of the teardrop group. Consistent in delivering a five star in every property we have stayed. That view is worth a special mention. Buddhi has to be given a special mention for go above and beyond for my family and I. The food was spectacular just as it is in all the other properties… MUST HAVE DISHES- Chocolate and Banana Tart, all their prawn dishes, and the rest of the menu just follows. Tip: if you’re willing to pay it forward you can do so by just taking a stroll down to the tea plantations and helping out the tea pluckers in any way you can. Could be by giving them preloved goods, lending a hand or by just sharing a smile. Special mention to Nurangi who is THE BEST reservation and marketing agent. She has always ensured my bookings are taken care of in every way possible.

The road leading up to the hotel through tea plantations is steep, narrow and winding. Then suddenly you arrive at this lovely spacious bungalow overlooking the estate. We stayed for three nights, and appreciated the cooler temperatures after the heat of Galle. Staff were wonderfully attentive, from breakfast to after dinner, offering afternoon tea, and pre dinner drinks. Service was outstanding throughout. The food was excellent, with a great selection of Sri Lankan and international dishes. We tried hoppers for the first time. There was plenty of local wildlife. One day, we had a grey hornbill tapping on our window. (It's worth spraying against mosquitoes. They were attracted to my feet) This is the first hotel we have stayed in where we have been given hot water bottles, in bed. We also did two excursions, one to a local tea factory, the other a train ride from Demodara to Bandarawela, crossing the Nine Arches Bridge.
