This hotel and our whole weekend was wonderful. The staff, the food, the hotel itself is truly fantastic. However, although I intended the give it 5* I cannot. Two nights were a birthday gift and over £630 this was not cheap. I do feel that if you are paying over £300 a night breakfast should be complimentary (not £40 for two) and I also shouldn’t keep being asked if I want housekeeping to make up the room (of course I do??). However, what did let them down was the price. Having paid the £630 when we checked the room is now actually £130 less (for same nights). When questioned we were told that ‘yes the prices have now gone down but you booked when they were higher and we are therefore charging you that price.’ This feels quite uncomfortable to me and unfortunate that a wonderful stay was slightly marred by this. I would still recommend it without hesitation but my tip would be to check prices nearer the time!

We stayed here overnight for New Year's eve. We had two rooms, which are 5 star standard, with the sort of thing you expect in the West End. Great bathroom soaps and shampoos. Double sink. Decent size robes. Huge bath, you could get two in. Great walk in showers. Coffee machine. It was the same room we had the last time we stayed. It looks brand new. Polished chrome everywhere - it was gleaming ! Quite extraordinary. Our room overlooked the valley and river. The place was very busy as one would expect. Dinner was terrific. We have not eaten here since last summer as we have moved house, much further away than before. The dining room lighting was very good, where one wants to sit and relax and enjoy the ambiance. The food was exceptional. Not cheap but not crazy money either. I had to start "Mushroom Pate" mainly as i was curious as to what that "thing" would be like; it was delicious. More like a "panna cotta" texture. We had had Beef Wellington. Great portion and piping hot. I had a Fondant dessert. The whole crew of men and women, provided a professional and polished service, with a smile. I found out when there, the owner closed the hotel - on Christmas day, so the staff could enjoy their Xmas lunch. This sort of attitude can only imbue a positive culture; and whether that was true or not, I cant recall such a positive, enthusiastic, smiling team of people. The owner was also out and about, chatting to guests and lending a hand to the staff . Go there. We will be back very soon.

Celebrated my daughters 30th last Sat with family in cellar room and had a great meal. Service was excellent and the wine and champagne excellent too. Chateaubriand was outstanding. Only gripe was that you need a proper bar person that knows how to make cocktails but hopefully that will come. Live in Hadleigh so do hope that you will carry this through to the rumoured restaurant coming in partridges old building.

Wonderful venue. Nice greeting and offered a super friendly service by Sue. The food and views are so special. The venue is cosy but also luxurious. Cooked English breakfast was so nicely done. Loved the taste of butter and seasoning on the mushroom. My wife had avocado and salmon on toast. She is unable to eat eggs so a bespoke dish which was like the breakfast presented beautifully and very healthy portion sizes. Orange juice was fresh and ice cubes added to give it that extra special taste. The grounds are stunning. Can’t wait to come back.

A last minute decision to dine at the Marquis. Once we entered we felt the warmth of the place and were greeted with a smile. The menu covered all tastes and the staff attentive. I went for the Scottish oak cod and my wife went for the special Belly pork. The portion was of a good size and I didn’t need the side I ordered. There was not much space for dessert so I had affogato. Will return again.

This hotel is pure quality with a hint of luxe yet relaxed charm. The staff from reception to the restaurant were faultless. Friendly, professional and genuinely welcoming. Our room (6) was perfect. Lovely comfortable bed and L'occitane Toiletries in the bathroom were a lovely touch. Clean and aesthetically pleasing. The food was delicious. We had steak, and the most amazing chocolate mousse served in a toffee 'apple'. Breakfast was also good quality and delicious. There isn't a single aspect of our stay that could have been improved, and we will definitely be back when the spa opens if not before.

Fantastic place to stay. We stayed in the bridal suite on the night after our wedding and it was beautiful.

Why has my poor review been removed? This is a rip off establishment. BEAUTIFUL setting. Verty overpriced for mediocre food. I mean VERY overpriced. I think it's very unfair to charge these prices. I think they Nedd to stop spending money on refurbishments/ expansion and spend money on attracting top chefs
