It's actually pretty average. I was planted here by Xiaohongshu.
First of all, the geographical location is far away. 20 minutes walk from Basel station, on the other side of the river. Although most of the roads are relatively easy to walk, the main attractions: the station, the ancient city and the Art Museum of Basel are all on this side of the river, so it is not very convenient. I have a feeling that there is no need to go so far for this hotel
Secondly, hotel decoration. The pictures in Xiaohongshu are too beautiful, and the p-picture content is too heavy. In fact, it is relatively ordinary, and I live on the fourth floor. The entire corridor feels like it has just been painted and smells of paint.
Finally, service. The two waitresses at check in and out both had obvious smiles. Only the German guy on duty at night made me feel serious and enthusiastic.

The old house was renovated. The room is not big, but it has a sense of design and personality. However, there is only a small table, which is not enough for daily necessities. The location is great, and you can walk to Basel's tourist and shopping hotspots.

The Volkshaus Hotel is simply perfect. ALL staff are very friendly, helpful, speak English perfectly as well as German. Rooms are just beautiful, clean and modern. The bar is quaint and has great energy. It is a must to also eat at their restaurant! Erich, our waiter, was superior! He made great recommendations as well as provided fantastic service. This hotel is also very centrally located to easily catch the trolley system and trolley 6 took us to all attractions for FREE! I highly recommend!

Amazing staff at front desk who were super friendly and helpful. Did their best to make my trip comfortable. Really appreciate it.
However, the amenities, facilities and general comfort of the hotel is sub-par.
For starters, the rooms are extremely noisy throughout the night. There’s drunk people, trams, garbage trucks, church bells etc. all keeping me up through the night.
The pillows were uncomfortable, mattress was hard and was painful. The curtains would not close throughout leaving gaps for bright light to pass through. No iron in the room so you had to take all your clothes to a different floor. No coffee machines or fridge either in the room and there’s one in each floor and you have to wait. No fitness center or sauna. They give you a pass for next door to a really shabby gym.
The breakfast is very lacklustre and they wouldn’t serve al a carte even though they had some items on the menu. The dinner menu was just average as well.
I get all of the above if you’re trying to be a budget hotel, but you aren’t :/

We had a wonderful overnight stay. Rooms were spacious and spotless, the bed and pillows were very comfortable and the staff was amazing. Great location especially for the Chris**as Market that was very walkable. Tram Transportation convenient to and from Train station. Highly recommend!

The room was very cold. The shower and bath had no hitting at all. Floor was linoleum. No pot coffee or tea in room.

Had such an amazing stay at Volkshaus! The rooms are awesome -- so cool and well designed. Loved the toilet cabin and the shower cabin, and the very minimalist furniture. Service was fantastic -- very friendly -- and the hotel gives you a pass for free public transportation and 50% off museums while you're visiting. The absolute BEST touch though was the happy hour bar cart that came by my room! I ordered a delicious *****ni and it was so neat having that service available. Highly recommend.

A central beautiful hotel with very nice rooms and good breakfast. However, the church bells ring every hour at night. I also found the arrangement of coffee machine in the corridor very odd. Leaving very early was a hair raising experience as nobody told to use an alternative exit and I found myself locked in the hotel's yard...
