St. James Social

I absolutely loved our stay at St James this summer. It was our first time up to Lake Superior and our first impression of Bayfield. The location has the style and setup of a modern Airbnb. You are mostly left to your own to navigate checkin, checkout, using the amenities, and taking advantage of the rooftop. If you have questions or need assistance, it's a quick text response. We stayed a couple nights as part of a longer road trip. We met the owners after we arrived, they run the restaurant/bar downstairs. The place was gorgeous, packed with customers - a great spot for dinner or just drinks. Highly suggest a stay if you are in the area.

From beginning to end, our meal and service was very good. Prompt, efficient and friendly staff, good ingredients, happy to make accommodations. While I would have preferred a cocktail, they are waiting on their liquor license and had a wide variety of beer, wine and fun other options including sake and cocktails made with champagne or involved NA cocktails. The caesar was very good (dressing on the side) and the pizza we had was a very good sourdough crust that was perfect for folding, Neapolitan style. So good!

Groovy but no service. Hotel tried to be trendy and groovy. Seems like that means no service. Never saw a staff member. Room was not cleaned. Continental breakfast was a joke. We expected them to tell us to vacuum and wash the windows. Interaction was by text messages telling us what to do. Room was trendy but did not have a decent place to sit. Would never recommend this hotel to friends.

Check in was super easy, key fob in the room was a great means for entry after check in, the room was very quiet, never heard much of anything other than some road noise which was fine. Location was fantastic, do make reservations at the in house restaurant.

Outstanding communication with hotel staff and beautiful clean accommodations. Highly recommend!

Atmosphere was great, they really did a good job with decor. The vision of the restaurant is great, food was good but mediocre- service was a bit slow too. If the food stood out a little more and the service was quicker I’d give it a 4 or 5. They have some work to do.

Rooms were very clean. Convenient location to walk to restaurants, shopping, etc

We were disappointed. The room was nicely decorated and clean. Over priced and we were to have a courtyard view and all we saw was a roof and alleyway. European breakfast was at the end of hallway and had fruit coffee, tea, english toast, yogurt. For over $400.00 was expecting a little more for the price.

Nice restaurant centrally located in downtown Bayfield - great space with good size bar area. Small hotel located above. We went on a Tuesday (pizza night). Drink menu is beer, cider, wine and THC beverages. No hard liquors, but cocktails were pretty and inventive. Plenty of NA options. Menu was limited to salads and pizzas and unfortunately the kitchen couldn't keep up with the dining room. If the waitstaff had acknowledged the long wait time when we sat down and offered a complimentary appetizer or beverage it would have made a difference. The wait for 2 good (not great) pizzas was close to an hour. Service while friendly, was understaffed. Would try again on a "regular" menu night...
