Booked last minute by email two nights for 2. Very quick confirmation reply by the hotel manager. Hotel/restaurant/bar in a recently renovated 17th Cent building close to the centre of Ampthill Bedfordshire. Plenty of parking on site and on the adjacent road - no charges. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the hosts to this family run hotel. The room was a well appointed double, very clean with a small en-suite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and had the best pillows I have yet to sleep upon (treated goose feathers). Although close to a main road the windows (original wooden sashes) had top quality secondary glazing which stopped all traffic noise entering the bedroom. Our room was above the restaurant dining area and we heard no evening noise from the diners. Generally the diners are finished by 10.30pm. Lots of clean soft towels and shower shampoos etc, kettle, tv, WI-FI etc. Please understand that the bedrooms are not large, as the confines of the historic building apply, the building does provide plenty of original features and some sloping floors. The rooms are more than large enough to give a comfortable stay. The bedroom did not have A/C (historic buildings again) but did have a new floor standing large fan for the hotter weather. The full English breakfast (order little or large as you prefer), sourced locally, was truly excellent and was as fine as you could find anywhere. Speaking to the hosts, I was sure that any query would be treated seriously as they are determined to continuously improve their establishment. An example of the host's customer approach was that on checking out, our host mentioned that they had changed their pricing structure the previous evening and he then charged me £30 less than had been agreed on booking the previous week. I was astounded and delighted by their approach. I really believe that the Prince of Wales will do well under the current family, and we will be re-visiting when staying in Bedfordshire.
