Spotlessly clean, helpful staff, fabulous view from my room. My mother and I had a room each in the motel part of this business. I can not fault my room. The view from the double doors is just fabulous. We sat on my patio every morning for breakfast and spent hours watching the wildlife. The bed was very comfy. Generous tea/coffee box. Fridge to use. The staff were lovely and I wish them well for their spring festival next week.

Meal only. We had a fantastic meal here. Lovely staff, atmosphere and food. We were due to eat at the pub across the road for steak night the following night. That was a disaster. How I wish we’d eaten at The Bear instead. We ate here again after the sickly steak at the other pub and would highly recommend

On arrival, I was informed my room had been changed because the heating was faulty. My room was fine, clean and reasonable. But the heating did not work, the main lights did not work, the shower leaked from its side, the lamps hand ominously flickering bulbs. No hairdryer and TV remote and so no volume control once I figured out how to work it manually. Very poor WiFi and they don’t serve breakfast. I alerted staff and asked if someone could look to fix. Nothing happened. After evening out and returning to a freezing cold room I asked the owner/manager for some heating and was given a ‘blow fan heater’ and told “don’t use it all night”. I had also booked a room for my daughters, same issues. They got a fan heater too… it should have been a warm welcome but really wasn’t. I lived in this village for 25 years and I’m sad to say that The Bear is not what it used to be. I hope they can pull it together and make the place great in the future.

I have recently stayed overnight and was shocked to discover on arrival, after driving over 250 miles, that the times on the website for food being served were incorrect. No food after 1800h on a Sunday and breakfast is now not served on any day. The notice about breakfast was part of the information on a notice pinned to the inside of the door to the room. I was told The Bear are unable to change the website, which I had relied upon when booking. I suggest that anyone wishing to stay telephone first to check what is available. The room was perfectly clean and acceptable.

Thanks to all the Bear Inn team led by Pauline for looking after us all so well....what a fantastic evening. Great venue, food was excellent (special shout out for the chef) and an amazing atmosphere. Everyone said how good it was 😊.

We came here to attend a workshop for farmers. We were not allowed to stay after an officious manager decided that no dogs were allowed in the function room next to the empty restaurant. We had already been assured by the bar staff that it was fine to bring our terrier. Food is rubbish anyway & poor drinks selection- no surprise the place was almost deserted.Avoid it!

I have travelled to over 50 countries in the last 30 years and dined at all types of establishments. The Bear Inn restaurant experiences the 5 of us had......ranked among the most disgusting and disappointing on several fronts. The toilets, especially the men and disabled- were unhygienic and filthy. The meals we were served would not even be suitable for people living on the streets. Infact 2 of the 5 meals we ordered were so bad, they were not eaten and taken back to the kitchen by the waitress. We struggled with eating some of the food on the others. Whoever prepared the prawn cocktails, ceaser salada jacket potatoes, tuna and cheese and the other meals we ordered- need lessons in how to prepare, cook and serve quality meals to the paying public. Two means were taken off the bill. The service attitude of the lady who served us, reminded us of someone been pulled off the street with no professionalism or positive attitude in customer service skill. No thank you. No enquiry if we enjoy our meals. No asking if we needed any alternatives. Just below zero standards on so many fronts. Sad....especially with such stunning rear view location in Burwash!

We stayed for one night while exploring the area. Check-in was welcoming and easy (didn't bother with the online check-in)....the room was large, clean and the beds were very comfy. Basics supplied....tea tray, mini-fridge, TV, extra pillows, but this is a 'no-frills' establishment. Not a problem as we knew this in advance. Positives: great location, parking right outside room, patio doors straight to garden, stunning views over countryside from adjacent pub garden, meals at the adjoining pub The Bear were plentiful and tasty, the pub was lovely and the staff were friendly, our room was clean, spacious, comfy and had a good shower. Negatives (causing me to only give 4 stars): no breakfast available on our stay, everything in room made a noise (one bed very squeaky, floorboards creaked a lot), bathroom window wouldn't shut and had only frosted glass (no blind), tea tray basic. The positives outweighed the negatives and the negatives may seem nit-picky, but we had paid only £10 more on the previous night at a different place and got quite a lot more for the extra £10, both in the room and by it including breakfast. However, would still return here if in this area...there's no reason not to....and would especially visit the pub.
