Hotel Virrey Cartagena

Madisson Boutique Hotel Cartagena

Stayed three nights at the Madisson, and it was the definition of adequate. A/C in the room worked well, and the included breakfast was a bit sp**** but had the necessary elements. Other than that, you get what you pay for, which isn’t much. Low ceilings, spartan bathrooms, strangely designed pool that had bugs, unfinished first floor.

Excellent attention, always respectful staff, beautiful place, very good cleaning and never bad face or bad gesture. All the excellent staff I liked the location, mini super and a large number of pharmacies in the surroundings of Burger King when crossing the street as well as Starbucks, Mac Donald's 100 metres, KFC 50 metres, The hotel is located 200 metres away and a wide variety of restaurants.
Holiday Inn Express Cartagena Bocagrande

So, let's start with the good. Our room was large, comfortable, and clean. Everything else about this hotel is awful. First, the pool is far too small for the size of the hotel. The available chairs are often full and there is no shade. Second, the breakfast experience is miserable. Once again, the room is far too small for the size of the hotel. Everything is cramped. Some days it was hard to find a table. Some days we noticed staff were not replacing the paper placements between guests. Third, service leaves quite a bit to be desired. When we checked in, we confirmed with the clerk that we were being charged in Colombian pesos. However, when we checked our bank account, we realized we were charged in dollars -- which cost more due to their awful exchange rate and service fees. When we spoke to the front desk, we were first told they couldn't do anything about it. Then, we were told their credit card machines don't even allow them to charge in US dollars. Then, we were told that the clerk would speak to management and get back to us -- we never heard back. This is a terribly run IHG property and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Great hotel to base yourself out of when visiting Cartagena. I really appreciated the staff's attentiveness. Whenever I needed something, they were ready to assist. Excellent location close to bars, restaurants, amenities and only 20 minute walk to old town. Highly recommend if you're looking to stay at an unassuming yet clean and quiet place. Note no gym or pool at the hotel but the beach is across the street and there's a beauty promenade behind the hotel about 4 minute walk. Definitely will stay here again!
