I came here for the Mother’s Day two course lunch and it was pretty bad. The beef was terrible - overcooked and tough as old boots. There was also only one piece of beef which I thought was stingy but I’m not sure my jaw would have got through a second piece so perhaps it was for the best. The Yorkshire puddings had seemingly been sat under a hot lamp for hours so were crisp throughout; they disintegrated into crumbs when you tried to cut them. I did mention this and two “fresh” yorkies were brought out. They weren’t hard and crunchy but sadly were stone cold and had been sitting in grease so I think I preferred the dust texture of the original ones to the taste of cold oil in my mouth, although it’s a close call. The roast potatoes were ok - not particularly crisp but certainly not the worst thing on the plate. One of the children ordered the pasta. You can’t really go wrong with tomato pasta. Well, except you can - overcooked pasta with barely any sauce. It looked revolting. The service was pretty slow (but I accept it was busy) and some of the orders were incorrect. All in all I was pretty embarrassed I had dragged my extended family here. I did mention at the time that the beef was terrible and the yorkshires weren’t good but there was no acknowledgment of that on the bill so we paid, and although it’s my local pub, I definitely won’t be returning sadly.
