This Inn is within walking distance of the beautiful village of Burton on the Water. We arrived on a busy Saturday afternoon so staff were under pressure. The lady of the house is very friendly and helpful. We were shown to our room by her and she explained about making a dinner reservation as they were extremely busy, this was helpful. It is advertised that there is parking available. We were unable to park in their parking (max 5 cars) during our stay as they were always taken, not enough spaces if every guest drove a car so bare this in mind. Breakfast service was extremely poor, there is relaxed and then there is the mousetrap in relaxed! Normally people like their tea and toast with their breakfasts and not when breakfast is finished. Toast was burnt, ordered fried eggs and received poached eggs. Very disappointing breakfast service however the food was tasty. Breakfast staff seem very unorganized and only one person seemed to be on each morning. Our bedroom wasn’t like the pictures, the ensuite was very small and a lot of mould in it on the ceiling which isn’t ideal. We also noticed that our ceiling was leaking on the morning of departure. Bathrooms didn’t seem to be cleaned from the night before with no toilet paper in them at breakfast time. Location is very good, restaurant and bar has great potential but the accommodation lets this place down, big time.

I understand this is a freehold independent hotel so the expenses involved and restrictions imposed by heritage requirements must be onerous on the owners. For this reason I wish to be balanced and fair with my review. Positives: Picturesque building typical Cotswold style Room warm Bed comfortable Nice breakfast Girls on breakfast shift very pleasant, especially the dark haired girl who was bubbly and friendly The biscuits and magazines in the room was a nice touch The village itself is very pretty, if full of tourists. Negatives: Pub was cold and lacked character Food was average, menu an odd selection of choices and I felt overpriced for what was provided Service was average so I am unsure if it warranted an additional 12.5% service fee Our room ( number 2) was so tiny I had difficulty finding somewhere to place my bags, making getting dressed difficult. As the room was in the carpark we had to keep closed the ( heavy and dusty) curtains plunging the room into darkness with no natural light, which was depressing. The carpet was filthy and most surfaces sticky. Overall the room and bathroom felt dirty A hook to hang wet jackets would have been welcomed. The bathroom was basic, had seen better days and the floor had a lot of water staining The kettle was broken. There was no spare toilet roll so we ran out of paper. The wardrobe was dingy and had a chair placed across it so doors hard to open The hotel appears to be undergoing extensive renovation with a mobile kitchen taking up a significant number of car spaces, so very limited parking, meaning we had to walk a fair way from down the street with our bags. No fun in the rain. This renovation work also meant we had to walk over pipes and construction debris to access our room from the bar/ dining area and the sounds and smells carried into the room from the temporary kitchen. All of the above may be due to impacts arising during the renovations, but overall we were very disappointed with our stay.

A truly awful experience with the Mousetrap Inn. They cancelled my booking 4 days before my stay and then refused to help me sort out the refund through the booking company. It took ages to organise the refund as it had gone past the cancellation date. Not only was a left without a booking the weekend I was supposed to be away, I was also left to sort it out when they were the ones who cancelled my stay, I certainly wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. Plenty of other rooms in the area with much better customer service.

Quite disappointed with our stay! On arrival we checked in and was shown to our room by a very polite and professional member of staff but the route we took to the room was horrendous stepping over big pipes and tubes coming from a temporary kitchen! Once we gained access to the room I was stunned at how small it was! The cobwebs coming from the ceiling and the extremely stained carpets! The room is so hot and we had no way of changing this. The room was thick with dust and the toilet/shower facilities were appalling the rooms are in serious need of a refurb and a proper clean day to day.

Stayed at establishment for 4 nights as wives birthday, on arrival noticed scaffolding. Booked in, and stayed in room but owing to builders working could not rest. Kept awake every night by the noise of sheeting on scaffolding. We were not told when booking that work was being carried out on the building which may affect our stay. The room was small, could not control the heating as controls missing, had to run taps and shower for long time to get hot water. The breakfast was the saving factor for this place as was first class and was served by Meg who was polite and always ensured that it was served hot and could not do enough for us. She was not aware of us not being informed about builders.

On arrival had to wait with the customers & dogs by the bar before checking in. The key had no room number was on a cheap plastic key ring. The room was at the front was very small especially the bathroom & shower & needed upgrading so disappointed considering the expensive room rate. Breakfast average no table settings with condiments. Positives were the friendly staff & the location.

Room needs decoration, but otherwise, clean comfortable and well appointed. As one customer at the bar said "Bourton is closed in January". Reuben ran the whole front of house single-handed,with cheerful energy. We very much enjoyed a delicious dinner, and the convivial company at the Bar afterwards. I didnt appear for breakfast...my wife told me it was a bit "random" but she said the young lady sourced eveything she wanted...like butter and Marmalade

Really disappointing from start to finish. The room was claustrophobic, and the bathroom had scraped up walls. The noise from everyone in Bourton was crystal clear the entire night. I heard conversation after conversation, and the hallway outside kept me awake/having nightmares all night. Once we were able to get out of the room, breakfast kept up the tempo. No toast, no OJ, we asked for water and they got it from the hose outside it was really upsetting. I asked for mustard and was ridiculed. It saddens me to say that all of the Bourton pubs and close amenities think they can dine out on location and not even try. We get it Bourton is pretty.. but try not to make your pubs & b&bs completely mediocre swamps. Very very pathetic
