I was hoping this hotel was going to be nice. I ended up being very disappointed for a Hilton brand hotel. I am a Hilton Diamond member and have always had a pleasant stay at other properties. The check-in experience was a mess. I arrived a couple hours before check-in begins. There was 1 employee helping people and there were 6 people waiting. She wasn’t friendly and it took 20 mins to get to me (I was the 3rd person in line). The room smelled weird and was excessively hot. The AC didn’t seem to cool off the room and it was very loud when it turned on. The TV remote would only work sometimes. The shampoo & conditioner bottles glued to the shower wall were empty. If I wasn’t already in the shower, I would’ve called down to the front desk for some. However, I had to forgo and just rinsed my hair with water. Checking the shower bottles should be a basic maid service that happens each time they clean the rooms. The maid service is clearing lacking in their responsibilities. Also, the room had poor insulation. I could hear every noise outside and the windows are thick and don’t open. I was also hoping to be able to sleep at night, but it sounded like someone was dragging sheet metal down the street for at least 2 hours between 2-4am. The blackout shades also wouldn’t close all the way, so they were pointless. The only true saving grace was the breakfast. Definitely would not recommend staying at the Stay at the Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown/N Loop/Michigan Ave. Pros: -breakfast was good and provided a lot of options -lobby and room were clean -water pressure was good Cons: -TV remote only worked half the time -no shampoo or conditioner in the shower -toilet wouldn’t flush without holding it down for 5-10 seconds -toilet bowl was stained -toilet paper holder was broken -blackout window blinds wouldn’t close all the way -insulation was so poor

Hampton Inn Chicago Downtown is in a fantastic location, right in the heart of downtown, close to restaurants, shopping, and attractions. We checked in late around 2 AM, and it was great that they were accommodating when we called ahead. They offer 24/7 valet parking for $70 per night, and regular parking is about $50, though it’s three blocks away. However, the rooms are quite small and don’t have basic amenities like a microwave or fridge, which was disappointing for the price we paid, especially in downtown Chicago. We also missed the free breakfast, which ends at 10 AM, and it’s more of a grab-and-go style, not a full buffet. Overall, while the location is excellent, the small rooms and lack of amenities were a bit underwhelming for the cost.

This hotel has a pretty good location, about a 7 minute walk to Millennium Park and 5 minutes to the River Walk. The hotel itself is a landmark, and the lobby is very lovely, albeit dark, with original fixtures. The rooms were fine; they could do with more lighting and the carpet was dingy and stale-smelling, but the bathroom was very clean. The air conditioning unit is a bit weird and the room never smelled fresh–I wished we could have just opened the window. The breakfast that’s included with your stay is what you would expect from a Hampton Inn–it gets the job done.

I've stayed at several Hampton Inns in a few states and think it is a very good Hilton brand. But this location disappointed me, and I think there are better values nearby. On the plus side, the location in the Loop is fantastic - very convenient to Riverwalk, the CTA, the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, and lots of good dining. The desk staff was very friendly. But on the downside . . . First, we had to wait around for about an hour in a warm lobby to check-in because their internet was not working - bad start. Then the little plastic keys for our room worked only half the time. I strongly recommend you get the Hilton App and electronic key on your smart phone, which solved the problem. The room itself was well air conditioned, but pretty small and uncomfortable. We booked a "King Bed + fold out sofa" for a third adult guest. Don't do that. Get at least two double beds (or another room). The fold-out sofa took almost the entire width of our room and nearly blocked access to the bathroom and room door. We had to press against the wall to shimmy by and wondered if this would be a fire hazard in case of an emergency. For just two people, the sofa would be a nice option, but this room (404 and those like it) should not be rented to 3 guests. Finally, like a lot of old buildings probably, the sound-proofing was not good. Aside from hearing blaring sirens occasionally go by, every night around 3 a.m. a truck came to empty multiple dumpsters in an alley on the right side of the building (as you face the front) impacting at least rooms 402-410. It sounded like a thunder storm and woke me up every night. Stay in the front of the building or on the side of the elevators if possible, or much higher up than the 4th floor. The Hilton Garden Inn next door also would be more distant from the dumpsters. The cost per night for this Hampton Inn is probably one of the lesser expensive options in this nice area of downtown Chicago, especially if you factor in the breakfast buffet which comes with the room. But I checked some other options nearby (we were thinking of leaving) and, for example, the cost per night at the Royal Sonesta around the corner was competitively priced and seemed nicer (Hoyt's restaurant and bar in that hotel was great). So I recommend you shop around for a better overall value in the area, see what the reviews say about sound-proofing in that property, and don't reflexively go for the lower cost or free breakfast option. Or bring ear plugs.

I stayed here for three days and two nights. It was my first time in Chicago and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I had a great time! I like how this hotel was close to everything - me and my sister were able to walk to the skydeck/willis tower, movie theatre, and cloud gate. The breakfast was great and I like how they switched some of the food items each day. I give it 4 stars because our hotel room did not have a shower - I feel that is something that should be mentioned before booking. It only had a bathtub.

I am writing this as I lay awake at 4:15am after garbage trucks spent 20 minutes outside my window. It was worse than if a train went by. I fully expected city noise but this is too much. This place is completely outdated. Lobby is pretty art deco but dark. Beds are full size and hard as a rock. Shower-hot water use makes a horrible noise. Bathroom-stains on light switch, makeup fingerprints on sliding door that doesn’t completely close, drain stopper on side of tub, tiles with chips. Staff is nice but not knowledgeable about their own city. Can’t name a bakery around the corner or give restaurant suggestions-which I found out is called the corner bakery (excellent) Parking is $69 per night- $50 option is not affiliated with hotel and is blocks away. Location is excellent but tons of other hotels-try something else. It seems mediocrity is acceptable when you have a great location. This hotel is at best a 3.

Positives: The room rate was good. The room was clean. The location was convenient to many attractions. The bed was comfortable. Negatives: The room was tiny. The two of us barely had room to move past each other. Less than 3 feet on either side of the bed to the wall. And less than 4 feet to the desk at the foot of the bed. The pillows were all flat. 2 pillows on top of each other was still too flat. Housekeeping was supposed to come every other day. We were there for 3 nights and housekeeping never showed up. The buffet breakfast was at best adequate. Food was cold and did not look appetizing. Waffles you make yourself were OK. We’ve had much better breakfast buffets at other similar hotels.
