There was no air conditioning (AC) even though the hotel advertised as having it. Their excuses was that it was too cool at night to operate the AC for the hotel even though it was actually very warm outside. Translation: the entire hotel is either on heat or AC, they are too frugal to allow use of the advertised AC, or their system is outdated and does not actually work properly. Very hot and stuff room. The odd thing was is that the hotel lobby seemed to have AC. The hallways and room were uncomfortably hot. Upon checking in there was only a little bit of toilet paper was left on the roll. Fortunately there was an extra roll provided. Only a few sheets of Kleenex were in the box. Also, the hand soap dispenser was nearly empty. It seems not much care is given to the rooms between guests. On our last day the housekeeper knocks on the door early in the morning even tough the “do not disturb” sign was hung on the door. It was a basic room with furnishings that included a desk, a small round table, 2 small nightstands, a desk chair, and one sitting chair. There was no usable refrigerator, just a mini bar. The was only one suitcase rack situated in the closet. We had to use the sitting chair for our other suitcase. The beds were not too comfortable. Also the pillow case did not completely cover the pillow, so your head might rest upon the exposed portion of the pillow where the lasts hundreds of guest placed their heads. Bathroom was OK but a bit smelly. The shower had low water pressure. Some water will leak out under the shower door to the floor. Stepping over the high tub with a slippery shower floor is a bit precarious. Internet speed was 3.81 Mbps in both upload and download, with 8 ms latency. The location is near the chocolate museum and a good pizza and pasta restaurant is nearby. The cathedral is less than a mile away. At almost 400 euros a night, it was very expensive for a poor experience. Perhaps HN stands for “Not Happy.”

Sadly this is NOT a 5 star hotel and I don’t even know how they got that rating. They may have been at one point but unfortunately my experience there was not of a 5 star hotel. The staff was very friendly however the hotel itself was very underwhelming. Upon arrival there was a paper stuck on the elevator saying there will be no water after midnight for the next 3 days . We then got a room on the 6th floor which had a nice view of the street, however at 8am in the morning we were woken up by drilling sounds from a floor above us and when we complained to the staff they said there was nothing they could do about it, we then finally got moved to the second floor, but the furniture in that room was so old rusty and outdated in my opinion. My boyfriend wanted to go take a nice swim in the pool that is advertised on their website only to realize that using it is an extra charge as the pool does not belong to the hotel. The pillows we had were also very bad, usually you get a set of about 2-3 pillows in 5 star hotels but we only got 1 flat pillow each which was very uncomfortable to sleep on. Sadly the only good thing about this hotel is that it’s very close to everything, about 5 minutes to the main station and the supermarket is right across the street as are most restaurants. The Rhein river is also quite close. I believe the hotel has a lot of improvement to do but it seems they are not even considering improvement any time soon. After the not so great experience we had we thought maybe they might offer some sort of compensation but nothing was offered. Once again this is really not a 5 star hotel so don’t be fooled.

Hotel Mondial am Dom Cologne - MGallery

Definitely one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in and the best hotel from Accor Hotels. I had accidentally booked the wrong dates for my stay. As soon as I realised it, I contacted the hotel. The staff helped me to change my reservation dates. While on my trip, due to the strikes in France and problems with the train connections I had to postpone my meeting online. I sent an email to request to check in early since I will be having my meeting at 1 p.m. Ms Wulff made the necessary arrangements prior to my arrival. On my arrival I was able to check in early and able to proceed with my online meeting. Without her help I would not be able to conduct my meeting. On the next day, I had another online meeting. Her colleague made the necessary arrangements so that the housekeeping team could get the room cleaned before lunch and my next online appointment. Till date I have stayed in a number of hotels from the Accor Hotels group. In comparison to M Gallery am Konzerthaus in Wien, Hotel Mondial am Dom in Cologne exceeds my expectations. Professionalism The staff at the reception were not only friendly and good at what they are doing, they are also willing to help and went an extra mile to make things possible. I would not have been able to get my work done if they did not help me. Even when checking out, the staff was professional and showed interest to assist customers whenever they dan. Splendid Location Situation a few minutes walk from the train station and the main city area, is this hotel definite one of the most strategic location in Cologne. View of the Cathedral I managed to get a glimpse of the cathedral from my room. Dinner I had dinner at the hotel restaurant. It was not only affordable, the service was impeccable. The waiter even suggested where I could sit so that I can get the best view of the area. Awesome! I would like to thank the remarkable staff for making my stay in Köln memorable und unforgettable. I would definitely be staying in this hotel again when I visit Cologne. I arrived at the hotel alone at around 11am where I intended to wait until my partner arrived to meet me. There are no staff there and you check in manually on a computer. As check-in is not until 3pm I went to the lockers at the far end of the lobby to put my suitcase away. As I was putting my case away a large group of 6 men, possibly more, surrounded me in front of the lockers. I'm a petite woman and they were all over 6 foot tall. They were dressed up for the Carnival parade and had clearly been drinking heavily through the night. They surrounded me and said things like 'oh wow you're beautiful', 'hello beautiful'... when I continued putting my things in my locker they continued to close in on me saying 'smile, smile, you should smile more' and 'you would be a lot prettier if you smiled'. At this point with nobody else around and feeling extremely scared for my safety I told them to leave me alone, squeezed past them and went into the ladies bathroom where I planned to wait until they left the lockers. I could hear smashing bottles as they were so drunk they dropped a few of their beer bottles on the floor. The main door of the ladies bathroom did not lock and one of the men came into the bathroom just a few minutes after me. I was terrified and screamed at him to get out and leave me alone. He left the bathroom but the men continued to stand outside the door for at least ten more minutes while I waited scared inside for them to leave before I could make my exit. This was a truly traumatizing experience and ruined what was meant to be a romantic weekend away for my partner and I in Cologne.

This was my first time staying at a hostel as I wanted a bit of traveller experience and most importantly keep my trip to Cologne cheap and affordable for three days. I read tons of reviews before I opted to stay at a&o and I was convinced this was ideal place in terms of location, affordability and also getting the best experience as a traveller. On my arrival, I was greeted with a warm welcome by there friendly staff at reception, I quickly observed what they had to offer and in honesty not much, a small lounge area with a small bar but they did have a pool table...I didn't mind too much as I knew I would be out most of the day. I was told I be staying in a 6 bed room (mixed) which I was ok with as I wanted to meet people, I had to pay around 5 Euros for sheets and a towel as this is not included to my surprise. There was no locker but a secure cage under the bed and If I wanted to securely lock it I would had to pay a refundable 20 Euro deposit to get a padlock from reception. The room was ok, it was clean and had good lighting but space was limited. There was separate toilet and shower room which I felt was convenient and was kept in a good condition. During the night, I didn't really get the best of sleep as you can hear a lot of people talking and walking up and down the hall way. Also, it's a 24hr check in so therefore anyone could come stay in the room at anytime which sometime kept me restless. It's also worth mentioning, this hostel accommodates pretty much everyone, from couples, big groups, school trips and family which during my stay I saw plenty of. The hostel is in a good location, 10-20 mins walk and you will find yourself surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops and in the central part of Cologne. My overall thoughts of staying at a&o is, it's a good place, friendly staff and pretty much everything at your doorstep. Not the best of sleeps I've had and knowing anyone could come in at any time was not ideal. I didn't always feel that my personal stuff was safe and secured but that's just me and I was a bit let down with the lack of facilities the hostel had to offer. I defiantly would recommend staying there if you come in a group but if alone no more than one night. Would I stay there again or at any hostel for that matter...probably not! If you're a hotel person like me then I would suggest to keep it like that.

Similar to the domestic five-star hotel, the service staff is very warm, we have 3 breakfasts, extremely rich and delicious, the room decoration is very simple and bright, the facilities are good. 3 people live, good value for money, the sofa bed can be taken out into a big bed, very comfortable.

We enjoyed our stay and would go again. Room comfortable, staff pleasant and helpful, we slept very well indeed. Breakfast is good and plentiful but at 19 euros a head on top of the cost of the room it is expensive. The Mauritius feels more like a spa with a hotel rather than a hotel with a spa. So you do see people going through reception (and the restaurant area) wearing bathrobes, which is what happens in a spa. The spa itself is terrific and unlike breakfast is included in the price (although it may be that you need to pay for robe hire). This being Germany, full nudity is obligatory in all the saunas plus the steam room and cold plunge pool. It’s optional in the swimming pools and jacuzzis although in practice this means that most of the people using these are also fully nude. That said, if shedding your costume isn’t up for discussion, there is absolutely no problem with wearing it in the pools and jacuzzis so long as you’re comfortable sharing them with people who aren’t wearing a stitch. It does follow from this that there is an age restriction on entering the whole area, so it’s not the place for a family pool experience. You might also want to take your own flip flops as the hotel-issue ones don’t have much grip on a wet surface. A final word on the costs of the hotel overall – it seems to make quite a difference which night(s) of the week you stay – it might pay to play around with different combinations of nights to see which options are most cost-effective.

It was a very clean hotel. Our room beds are shiny. Workers like the Gulery helper. Location is less far from the centre but 10 minutes by walking. We haven't already walked everywhere. I recommend.
