Could’ve have been so much better! The hotel is lovely and we were excited to see our room. When we entered the blinds were down and it was very dark. These heavy blinds were hanging on by a thread and exposed the shoddy baton they were attached to. We tried to pull up blinds but all the strings had snapped so no natural daylight at all! We enquired and we’re told to roll them up and sit them on top of the shutters. Not great. Sleep - really poor! We had a leaking / dripping toilet which continued throughout the night. I mentioned this on checkout and the man who dealt with us said that would’ve driven him mad. Despite this, no gesture of good will or recognition of the fault. Just a thank you and they would get it fixed!!! Food however was really great and the breakfast I had (eggs royal) were amazing. Room decor was lovely and bed was comfy. Could be a wonderful place but attention to detail is lacking and not worth the price we paid with the issues we experienced.

Before i get to the not so good part, this establishment and the local area is beautiful. The Wheatsheaf Inn came highly recommended by friends and family and i can understand why. If you are looking for a romantic setting away from the tourist jungle in Bourton-on-the-Water, this is the place to stay. Unfortunately, we were unable to sample any of the food from the restaurant, which i was told was very good, but the room was fantastic (for the most part). I understand we stayed in the ‘bigger boutique, which felt very luxurious as soon as we walked in. The staff had also turned on the dyson air blade before we came to ensure the room was cool, which was a nice touch. The kingsize bed, dressed in high quality linen, was extremely comfortable. The room didn’t feature a bathroom as such, with a separate w/c in the corner, with the bath (big enough for 2) and his/hers sinks were located in the open plan bedroom area. Again, these were high quality and the toiletries were very nice. Please be aware, the website states all rooms have a rainfall shower. We were disappointed to learn that the room we stayed in did not have a shower which meant we had to run numerous baths throughout our stay which was inconvenient. The smaller details in this room were top notch. There was a Nespresso machine next to the bed and a variety of pods to choose from. The mini bar, which we didn’t sample, was stocked with some nice drinks and snacks. You can see that a lot of thought and investment has gone into these rooms BUT it wasn’t all good ….. We had arrived late and decided to put on a film to see out the evening. Before going to bed (just after 11pm) we learnt the toilet was blocked and filled up to the brim after one flush (and wouldn’t clear). The guest book said the Inn closed at 11pm and guests should call the night porter for any out of hours emergencies. We called the number provided 4 times with no answer and left a message on the last try. Our call was never retuned. My girlfriend and i were then unable to go to the toilet for the rest of the evening/over night which was extremely unpleasant. When we checked out, we mentioned this to a member of staff and he said he had heard our message but forgot to get back to us. Apparently the Night Porter was on holiday too!! - Amateur stuff to be honest. Not what you'd expect from a place like this We were also offered compensation but were told go through ******* to claim it, which after speaking to them was pennies compared to the inconveniences we experienced during out stay and would barely cover breakfast. As i mentioned above, this place is lovely and we would definitely stay here again but the service needs to be improved. We are planning to spend more days in the area later this year and will probably make this our base so hopefully the’ve taken the feedback on board by then .. Will pack some rubber gloves and a plunger just in case though!

Went for a drink with my partner on our way home. Not impressed that staff were drinking on shift. They weren’t interested in their jobs it was just about leaving as soon as they could as we could overhear all of their conversation! We’re not impressed so left by 10:30. Gone downhill since new management. Will try bar over the road in future. Thanks for the poor experience

This pub has lost its Spark. The friendly happy staff left… now you just don’t even get a hello anymore. Sadly customer service is not great here, could learn from the Sherborne who are much better at be welcoming. The food however, has never been bad. Some work to do Wheatsheaf!

This used to be my go to pub when staying in the Cotswolds, the food , staff , service and attention to detail were always of a very high standard. I used to recommend so people to go but sadly , not any more. Such a shame that standards have slipped so much .

We had a great stay at the Wheatsheaf Inn. The staff were so friendly, and the food was exceptional. We had the Sunday roast and it was faultless. The only reason that I have given 4 stars, not 5 is due to our room being downstairs. A beautiful room, so much space and great facilities, but the noise from the room above stopped us sleeping at times. Having said that, we would love to go back, but upstairs!!

We stayed at the Wheatsheaf for 2 nights for our wedding nearby. We hired the private dining room for a family dinner the night before the wedding. The food was delicious & service was great. The rooms are full of character & lots of special touches like the Dyson hairdryers & treats. The staff were so helpful & friendly. Would definitely recommend it. I’d love to go back in the summer to make the most of the beautiful garden area.
