Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica

Located at the Peninsula with stunning views. All the activities are fun and family-friendly. What a pleasant stay.

Nice but too expensive!

We stayed at this Four Seasons in April of 2024 with my wife, nanny, and our youngest kiddo (2 yo). We are fans of the company; I insist staff read Isadore Sharp’s book on customer service when I hire them, and we have stayed at a dozen or so of their properties. We also have a family friend who worked in the head office, and she tells the story of how Sharp threatened to drop the staff health insurance provider if they didn’t cover her “experimental” treatment. I have deep affection for him and the brand; it’s my kind of place - usually. Despite this, I will not choose to go back to this particular Four Seasons (but note: my wife liked it and would like to go back, see below for personal preference details). First, the good: the staff are typically Four Seasons fabulous. They made our 2 year old feel like a celebrity, with team members I’m sure he hadn’t met calling him out by name. Our nanny reported that the children’s centre was great, and they went back repeatedly. The only exception are the folks who greet at the restaurants - I don’t know what it is about that job that invariably attracts (or converts to?) snooty people who are less about customer service and more about status. Here too, more than once we had to go looking for someone to seat us, and I had one unfortunate conversation with a young woman who was making it very clear I was not the right person to be at that venue (in fairness, I agreed with her - see below). The concierge was able to do some unusual planning for us, securing us a charter flight out of the jungle later in our trip to Costa Rica, and convincing the car rental company to collect the car at the air ***** if we left the keys in it - note that this is several days after our FS stay ended. They were often slow to respond to email, but otherwise awesome. About the hotel: the property is immaculate. We rented a “residence” for us and the nanny, and it was fairly well appointed, with B- furniture in terms of physical comfort. That’s about as good as it gets in my experience - in my entire life, at dozens of hotels, only the Four Seasons Silicon Valley has had comfortable chairs in the rooms. I’ve always assumed it’s like McDonald’s where they design it that way intentionally to get you out quickly (it’s probably more that they buy furniture which looks good in photos, but they don’t spend the extra for the actual designer brand that is both attractive AND comfortable). At least in our “residence” there wasn’t anywhere comfy to sit down for an extended period, but hey, get out to the beach, right? Despite this, the mattresses were fabulous (as always at FS), great night’s sleep. Could definitely have used some more lighting throughout, but that’s true at nearly all hotels, and I’d recommend adding some instructions (never did find the button to close the shades in the living room), and they messed up several items in our grocery order (residence includes a kitchen), but these are minor quibbles. You cannot go wrong with a Four Seasons Hotel- the level of service is impeccable. You pay a premium for it and this hotel was absolutely no exception. Perhaps the friendliest staff we have ever encountered. (a special shout out to Cindy at the adults pool- what a lovely time we had with her!) I wanted to give this property 5 stars as it truly is a wonderful property, but for the price, I had to take off a star. We decided to stay in a plunge pool room which was lovely- but these rooms were far from the hub of the hotel, which meant we had to rely on golf carts all day. And while the response on the app was quite quick there was times it wasnt and it was a bit frustrating (between the heat and hills of the property, much of the day it was out of the question to walk back and forth to our room) The property is very isolated- which is lovely but you're really stuck there. And since it's not a all inclusive, you're pay $$$$ for food and amenities all day. One thing that we found to be frustrating was that there was no quick grab food location. They had one in the morning till 11am but there needed to be a place to grab some food that don't require you sitting at a restaurant, pool or ordering in room. Fresh food like a sandwich, salad, etc would have been so lovely to have the option of. I know a small complaint but we found ourselves waiting long times for food service throughout the day. The spa left a lot to be desired. I got to the spa with plenty of time before my appt to use facilities but it was tiny, and very lacking. (Though the post spa food spread was lovely!) My spa treatment was fantastic (the volcanic scrub and massage) so no complaints. As for the room- it was huge and overall a wonderful stay. The bathroom could use some updating. Especially the toilet room- after staying at the Lanai property, and having the most magical bathroom experience, this was quite a let down. Felt like a 90s bathroom. The housekeeping was impeccable and so thorough. Overall we had a great time- but it's $$$$ from the food, to reserving a chair at the adult pool is $75 (and $750 for a cabana which is bananas.) But if you're looking for a wonderful property to relax and be pampered, this is a great option!

We have stayed at For Seasons Athens,Istanbul,New York,Milan,Budapest,Lisbon ,Seychelles and Dubai Regrettably I feel we have been taken for a ride whilst we pay top $$$ other groups staying at the property were paying much much lower price They made this property like a resort hotel for conventions and for families with young kids like a notch below Disney Hotels However the good points are second to none Service Quality,Good food and very comfortable rooms But seriously this is not a Four Season we are used to and my recommendation to regular Four Seasons clients is to avoid this property

Nice property but definitely dated. Needs a remodel soon. We came during a shoulder season, service was quite slow. Food quality is good as is pricing of food and drink. But overall experience wasn’t anywhere near the per night price point we paid. We have stayed at much nicer Four Seasons resort properties at this premium price point. Good for a one time trip but wouldn’t come back.

This resort was heaven on earth. The beauty, the service , the food , the spa , the fitness center and the overall cleanliness was immaculate. The only downside is that it is very expensive$$$$ However that being said you get what you pay for. The staff is so friendly. They go out of their way to make sure your stay there is everything you want it to be. Thank you Four Seasons for a wonderful experience !

My 12 and 13 year old daughters and I visited for spring break and had a wonderful time. Beautiful beaches and pools. We loved the monkey tour, aerial adventure zip line and ropes course, and rented a boat for half a day. All super fun. The number one highlight of our trip though was the service. Everyone - and I mean everyone - was kind and went above and beyond. They would happily bend little rules to accommodate - serve an early lunch before kitchen was open, make room for a table at a fully booked restaurant, etc. wonderful pool and beach service. It is going to be difficult to travel anywhere else because this level of service is going to be unmatched. Definitely visit!

Just returned from an amazing trip to Four Seasons Resort in Costa Rica. This was our first visit to Costa Rica and the people are as genuine and friendly as all the reviews said. Getting thru the airport was quick- luggage was waiting for us- as was our driver from ILT who was friendly and efficient. The resort is remote and hidden away on the peninsula, serving as a perfect place to relax and chill out. The employees are incredible - efficient, hustling, and always trying to anticipate anything you might need. We have stayed at several high end service-focused resorts, and this Four Seasons is right there in terms of service. Our trip was awesome, mostly because of the excursions we did: the whole family’s favorite was our trip to the La Leona waterfall and ziplining, which we booked through nomadtourscr Gabriel is the reason our trip was so fun - we read about him from other trip advisor reviews and I reached out via whatsApp before we arrived. He booked our arrival airport transfer for $90! Once we arrived we booked everything thru him and he made it all so easy - private waterfall hike, sunset boat ride and fishing, surf lessons for the kids, Rain Forest trip and our airport return. Everything was very fairly priced and our trip wouldn’t have been the same without his help. Don’t be afraid of the locals on the beach, they are all wonderful and very helpful. I highly recommend this resort and nomad for your private tours
