Riu Plaza the Gresham Dublin

Riu Plaza the Gresham Dublin

Dublin City Center Dublin|0.19km from Mexico to Rome
I paid for my granddaughter to stay at the Gresham for a weekend as a birthday treat. (She was 21). She took her boyfriend in tow and this is a first hand review from them - coz the family all know I love putting reviews on. I do think people deserve them. The check in was very quick and efficient. The staff were lovely they said. The room was more than they expected, the hotel had upgraded them to a superior king on the request of Vincenzo (the reservation supervisor) - what a lovely man..! I had spoke to him personally the week before and he upgraded them without being asked. The room was warm, comfortable and so very noticeably clean. The couple were so impressed with everything. I’m told the best thing (which could not fit into a suitcase) was the shower cubicle. Jack in 6ft 4ins and was thrilled to be able to stand up in the shower. A simple thing but important for taller people. The bed was long enough for him too. They did have a meal in the restaurant that first evening and when I asked for a score out of 10 for the food I was told 50/10…. You can see the photos and although the quantity might not be overwhelming the steak was so perfect, the fish so fresh that the plates were cleared and they said they were stuffed.! So, two nights in the hotel, two breakfasts that were also hot, well cooked and a great choice of continental and main. Not one complaint. mmmm well, maybe one. It seems the housekeeping do start early and woke our couple up both days but sure that got them on the move for breakfast. So, this is where I thank the hotel for giving my granddaughter a lovely, homely time. If she had been disappointed I would be writing something different without question. Now the rest of the family can’t wait to go - it’s been a while since we were there. It’s also lovely to know the Gresham still has its long time great reputation.

Gardiner Lodge

Dublin City Center Dublin|0.22km from Mexico to Rome
Having never been to Dublin before, I picked the Gardiner Lodge without much to go on. Happily, I made the right decision. In fact, I feel like I hit the jackpot. I have been here for almost a week and I have had nothing but the most positive experiences. The people at the desk are supremely knowledgeable, attentive, friendly, and helpful. The kitchen staff serves up a wonderful breakfast every morning under the natural light in the solarium/dining room. For those mornings when I could not wait until 8am (at which point the Irish breakfasts begin to appear), a continental buffet has been waiting for me at 7am. The rooms must surely have been remodeled recently; mine looks and feels brand new. The Gardiner is perfectly located for my purposes, just above the corner of Gardiner and Talbot. Two wonderful (and very different) pubs--the Celt (with Irish music) and Grainger's (with peace and quiet)--are within a stone's throw on Talbot. There is espresso to be had on the intersection itself. Gardiner Street is busy with traffic, but no street noise ever reached my room (#16); only the sound of the occasional seagull. Dublin north of the river is not as ”well-heeled” as Dublin south of the river, and that's exactly the way I like it. Talbot is a wonderfully unassuming street with a pleasing mix of restaurants, formal and informal. Bottom line: I will come back to the Gardiner Lodge the next time I am here.

The Gate Hotel

It's a hotel for crashing at, not one for planning a romantic stay in. I had a nice stay here, probably because I knew what to expect. There's a lot of negative reviews on here. I would say overall, this hotel is what I expected and not as bad as these other reviews make it out to be! Stayed in march 2023 for a stag do, as a group of 7. All rooms were twin double. The welcome reception staff were friendly and helpful. Had to put a €100 damage deposit on arrival, for each room - refunded at the end. Reception is small, so it can be a bit cramped. The rooms themselves were a bit tired: The carpet was old and didn't reach the walls in places. Limited number of power sockets - one across the other side of the room. The windows need cleaning with mould remover - not expensive - and would remove some of the cigarette smell, I think. Floors are a bit wonky, and they squeak. The bathroom was just ok... Toilet didn't have a great flush. Water pressure in shower was quite low and the Bathroom seemed clean. The room was clean enough - Towels and bedding were clean. The bed was comfy, lots of pillows Curtains let a lot of light in, so sleep mask probably good to have. The pub is above a night club with shared beer garden, so it can get loud - being on the top floor, didn't seem too much of an issue but I had ear plugs anyway. The hotel is warm, even with radiators off. The location is ideal for night life. To go back to my first point, this is a 1 star hotel. You're going to get a 1 star experience. Thank you to the staff. I hope you clean the mould from the windows, as it's really not a difficult/expensive job and it's not nice for guests to see. This is why I am giving 3 stars, not 4.

Arlington Hotel O'Connell Bridge

Had a 4 night break a week ago. We had very good service particularly in the dining room. My husband has food intolerances and Alina, who I think was in charge of the dining room, was very good. She put the gluten free bread in a specially designated toaster in the kitchen, after the first morning she automatically did this when she saw us. Otherwise it was a buffet type breakfast, both cooked and continental, and put your own bread in the toaster. Lucas was our waiter and made us feel very welcome, he managed his section of the dining room very efficiently, brought us pots of coffee and tea, and cleared our table as we went along, we certainly tucked in! The hot food behind the buffet counter was constantly being freshly cooked particularly the eggs (personally I don't hot food that has stood for ages, especially eggs) We went as foot passengers from Holyhead, it wasn't worth taking the car, we chose the Arlington for it's central location. Someone showed us how to download an app to use the local transport, but the hotel is so close to the main tourist attractions that we just walked, it was easier. Being over retirement age, I went back to the hotel room for a ''rest” for a couple of hours in the afternoon. There was a lot of evening entertainment very close to the hotel, we went to 3 live entertainment events. The room was a good size, well serviced each day, nicely furnished, an old type shower worked well, and it had an extremely large comfy double bed. The view was a sort of courtyard, must admit not that attractive a view, but considering what we paid was overall very good value for money. Finally, Heather on reception was very good for information and booked our taxi back to the port. (on the way there just got the shuttle bus)

This hotel is incredible and I’m so happy I took a chance and made a reservation despite that I wasn’t sure as it was my first time visiting Dublin. The hospitality, the facilities and the location right in the heart of the city was PERFECT! They even help me schedule my tours and coordinate everything! My birthday was a Wednesday and the reception team sent me a sweet note, a box of chocolates and tickets for complementary drinks. This detail I will forever remember it and a special thank you to Dylan and Karen for showing up to my room and surprise me on my bday. Hope everyone can get to experience what I did this week. Thank you, Thank you Thank you!!! Going back home feeling happy, blessed and in love with this beautiful country. I will be back for sure 🇮🇪 Take care, Carla from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷

Hotel is in a central location , unfortunately that’s where it finishes, male when checking in needs to learn some manners, our room was basic but clean , breakfast was just ok for €25,found the staff extremely unhelpful had to interrupt their conversation in their own language , for the basics like butter and milk and on both occasions we were told where to find it while sitting at our table, they weren’t busy as there was only ourselves in restaurant at the time. The hotel lobby is like a waiting room, no tables to leave scalding hot tea on, the bar closed abruptly, everyone was told by the barman to leave immediately with drinks to the lobby where he thought , we were all going to fit still amazes me , a little heads up that the bar closes early and we wouldn’t have rushed back, anyone attending any shows or concerts chill elsewhere! Lastly, you get a car park reduction if, YOU ASK at check out ,for either of the 2 car parks close by. Irish Life being one!
Wynn's Hotel

We have just returned from the most enjoyable stay at Wynn's hotel and are so happy to have experienced one of the most professional hotels we have ever encountered. It has the perfect combination of understated elegance, attention to detail and welcoming charm, all made to seem effortless. Behind all this you have the professionalism of the staff, David in the bar looked after us so well and whose easy conversation, good manners and skills make you feel you have been visiting for years, Roberta on the Reception is a true gem and so helpful and interesting, the dining room and staff, most attentive I didn’t get the head waiter's name but the breakfast first class, best we have had and all home made and compliments to all the catering staff as our evening meal sat in the bar was delicious. We hope to return and will tell all our friends.

I have to say that this is my only choice to go to Dublin. It is close to the guest's office, the environment is ok, I have tried to live in other places, and the expensive ones are not as good as this. Maybe there is not much room for choice in Dublin.
