"This is a lovely hotel with a kind staff, lovely building, beautiful grounds and great restaurants, but it was hard for us to sleep well here. And that ruined our experience here. Like a lot of Scottish hotels, they don’t have air conditioning in guest rooms. Unfortunately, we were there in August of 2026 during a heat wave. When I complained about the warm room, the staff told me to open my windows (that don’t have screens) and gave me 2 fans that barely moved any air. But I was on the ground floor with a road 20 feet away from my window. So any insect, animal or person could easily see my open windows and just crawl through, which didn’t make me feel safe. Out of exhaustion, I left them open. Despite the country location, you’d think they’d be concerned with safety and liability if an intruder got into those windows. I barely slept while we were there. And my husband agreed it was uncomfortably warm in his room too. And there is no thermostat in the rooms so you can’t control the heat temperatures either? Our rooms were recently renovated. The door knobs were very hard to open. The light fixture in the ceiling was too bright. I think they should take it out and install a ceiling fan right over the center of the bed. I know this is a beautiful and historic building, but why stay here in such discomfort? When I checked out and told the woman at the desk my concerns and that I would not stay here again, her response was to defensively point out I was already tired when I arrived as if that is my permanent condition. She made no offer for a partial refund. I planned this trip for an entire year and was so eager to enjoy the countryside, but the choice of this hotel was a mistake."

"The facilities are complete. I was assigned a ground floor room, and the view outside the window was just a wall, so no scenery. The closet door and room door are poorly designed; the closet door was really hard to open. The bathroom is very spacious with a bathtub, and the heating worked well. The duvet was quite thin, which wasn't ideal as it happened to be cold during my stay. Regarding cleanliness: The bathroom was clean, but the bed had some lint/fuzz, and the duvet had some loose threads. For service: The lady at the front desk who checked me in was very nice. She slowed down her speech when she realized I wasn't a native speaker and was very patient in answering my questions. Luggage storage was also very convenient. The only drawback is that the walk to the hotel is difficult. The hotel is close to the train station as the crow flies, but the road is very steep, making it really tough to pull luggage. I wouldn't want to experience that again. (The view outside the hotel is nice though!)"

"The room was beautifully designed, and I loved it. Due to inclement weather, we couldn't go out, and the restaurant downstairs was closed. The hotel staff and management were incredibly responsive, constantly bringing us food and asking if we needed any help. I was so touched! They even went out to the Chinese restaurant to get us fried rice and noodles! And they didn't charge us a penny! Thank you again! My daughter is attending college here, and I'd definitely stay here again if I ever get the chance!"
