Hotel Torre di Bellosguardo

The least that can be said about the hotel is that it is amazing. I was with my wife for five days in room 15 as I remember. The room is amazing. The garden is wonderful and the gardener’s great work, the view of Florence is indescribable. I had the honor of speaking with Mr. Franchetti the owner of the hotel and meeting him personally. I look forward to visit this masterpiece again.

For my first visit to Florence, no other hotel would have been as special at Torre di Bellosguardo. It is the most stylish old villa, with a handsome tower dating back to Dante's time, set in glorious gardens cascading through lush terraces down the hill towards the city. The views from the top gardens and the house are spectacular, with Florence spread out below you, surrounded by the hills of Tuscany. An elegant swimming pool near the top is a pleasant spot to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the place, well out of the noise and bustle of the crowded city, but within 15 minutes walk of the centre, through olive groves and vegetable gardens, and a 5 minute taxi ride back. The rooms of the hotel are spacious and comfortable, from its exquisitely decorated reception room, to the plant-fringed conservatory, the airy breakfast terrace, to our charming bedroom and bathroom, furnished with lovely old Tuscan furniture. We were well looked after by all the friendly staff, and Roberto in reception made us feel very welcome, researching queries online and helping us to find places in the city. Both my friend and I are keen gardeners, and we loved the beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers, each thoughtfully identified with a label! We also enjoyed a delightful conversation with Ana, wife of the owner, Amerigo, about the design and planting. Altogether, we had an unforgettable stay at Bellosguardo, and can't wait to return to it again!

This is the most beautiful hotel. It is so serene and special. It feels untouched, but also clean and comfortable. It sits on the most beautiful hill with the best view of Florence. Walking into the city is very easy, but we always took a taxi back. The staff is fabulous! Nothing but wonderful things to say. I cannot wait to go back.

I have been here numerous times, and this time by myself! I give this place the highest score for EVERYTHING - location, views, breakfast, bar, SAFETY (very important), stunning room decor, etc. I have had numerous wonderful conversations with Amerigo, as he has been the owner for 20 years! A beautiful place...

The views are stunning at the top of the hill. It was very laid back and quiet. We really enjoyed the large room we were in. It’s a beautiful property- and I’m sure the pool is great when it’s open for the summer! The staff was very friendly. We kind of felt like we had the whole place to ourselves, which is nice to come back to after long days spent walking around Florence. We loved it!!!

Quite a memorable stay. The Villa has an amazing history & its renovation honors its vast history. Gardens are a calm oasis just above the Porta Romana. Very convenient to the city. The breakfast buffet was delightful on the outside loggia. Terrific staff.

Absolutely one of the best views of the city of Florence-day and night! An out of the way place that allows one to reach out/go to Florence while living out of the hustle/bustle of all the tourists. Take a walk down through the olive groves and then a cab back up the hill. A unique setting (think 13th and 15th century structures!) that is literally living in history yet is not pretentious/fancy. Breakfast on an open balcony overlooking the city is great way to start the day. All the people at T di B are super friendly and helpful!! (P.S. Roberto can direct you to some great pasta dishes at local restaurants in nearby Firenze,) Now, if you expect/need 5-star cradle to grave service, with bellhops to fulfill your every whim instantly, this is probably not the place for you. But if you are like my wife and I, and love something different/roads less traveled, this is the place for you! Would definitely stay there again!

Florence is beautiful, but busy; before plunging into all its madness it is worth pausing and taking time at Torre Bellosguardo. Smell the fragrant breeze and experience the quiet grace of an Italy past and still manifest here. The welcome and service is warm and gentle as befits such a historic and elegant establishment. It has been lovingly and carefully updated for 21st century visitors. Lovers of gardens and countryside will have much to enjoy: take the rough path from this elevated crag to the Porta Romana. The kitchen gardens have suffered the ravages of the pandemic, so we need to keep returning to help the recovery of this treasure.
