Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan Reviews

This ryokan is simply too lively! It's a pity we were there a bit too early coz the garden will be so beautiful in full bloom! The staff are friendly and nice! Service is superb! But when come to value for money, their sister hotel Tenyu is of better and greatest value with a slight higher price but worth it. However they are totally different type of ambience and feel. For ryokan experience, this is no doubt better choice

Historic Ryokan with amazing atmosphere and decor, our private onsen room was amazing and the water wiped away weeks of stressful traveling around Japan.

It was very nice and comfortable place for holiday.

The Japanese garden of Mikawaya is beautiful, and the room balcony has a great view. The area is spacious. Although there is no bathroom, you can go to the large public bath to take a bath and it is also very comfortable. There is a tea room in the public area, where coffee and tea are available for free at any time, and there are free foreign wine and Japanese sake tastings in the evening. The breakfast and dinner of the one-night two-meal hotel are both Japanese cuisine, and the dinner is a special sake lees hot pot (the appetizer is a sashimi platter, and the main course is venison, beef, pork + chicken meatballs), and the breakfast is tofu pot with grilled fish. The hotel also has staff who can speak Chinese, so communication is unimpeded. All in all, it is quite satisfactory☺️.

A very perfect experience, the building is unique and has a lot of history. I thought that I would not sleep well in such a 140-year-old hotel, and I was worried that something bad would happen. As a result, I slept very well at night, and the breakfast and dinner were very special. I would like to especially praise the two ********* guys and a lady whose Chinese was not very good. Their service was very warm and meticulous, making people feel at home. If I come to Hakone next time, I will choose to stay in Mikawaya, my dream house!

The hotel has a strong Japanese style. The room is spacious and beautiful. The environment is elegant and quiet. I went to the private hot spring directly. It was very comfortable. I took a dinner at 17:30 on the night of check-in. There were a variety of dishes. I chose Western food for breakfast. I was full. The hotel is very close to Horaien Station and only 5 minutes walk from Kowakien Station. The H line can go directly to Hakone Shrine. Hakone's overall transportation is quite convenient.

We stayed at Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya for two nights. The service was great, the food was absolutely great, breakfast and dinner were not repeated on both days, delicious food and hot springs ♨️ made it a happy holiday, looking forward to next time 😀

It's really good. It's an option without a bathroom in the accommodation, but it was great that you can go at any time if you apply for a private bathroom. Also, if you want to add dinner, you can always inquire.

Super super good! Exactly what I wanted in a traditional Japanese hotel! If I come to Hakone again, I will definitely stay here. There is also a Japanese art museum next to it. The most satisfying hotel I have ever stayed in in Japan! Recommended The only disadvantage is that it is relatively far and the bus intervals are long. If you take a taxi, there is no problem at all.

It is a very old building with a history of a hundred years and is worth staying in. It feels like going back to the Edo period. There are not many hotel rooms and there are small outdoor hot springs. The location is on the mountainside, making it more convenient for self-driving tours.

We went on a trip to celebrate my daughter's birthday, and the food and service from the staff was very kind, and the baths were really nice. It was especially cold, so the amazake hotpot for dinner was absolutely delicious. If I still have a chance, I would like to go 😃
