In the morning of check-in, we were told by phone that we needed to be picked up at the hotel. After getting off the car for almost an hour (I made 4-5 phone calls and they kept saying they would come in about 10 minutes), a foreign guy from a ski equipment rental shop came. When he heard that we only wanted to rent for one day, he directly told us to make an appointment. After several rounds of communication, we could only rent skis before being sent to the hotel. (We were not even rented helmets because we did not have an appointment.) The process was very unpleasant.

In the photo in the booking system the room looked much more beautiful than it turned out to be in reality, so the first impression was a disappointment. We booked a double room. The cost of living was about $200 per night for two. In our opinion, it is expensive for this room. The room is very tired. The administrator Joana is friendly, ready to help and answer questions. We were provided with a free transfer from the bus station to the hotel and back. In general, the hotel driver always took or brought someone somewhere). Probably to the nearest ski lift and restaurants. We did not use the hotel's shuttle service to the ski lift. You can walk along a forest path to the ski slope of the Happo one resort in about 5 minutes. The free shuttle to the ski lifts of Hakuba 48 and Gory resorts is very close. The bus station and shops can be reached on foot in about 30 minutes. The hotel has an onsen. Breakfast was included in the price. Normal in general. But it's cold in the dining room.

We stayed here during snow machine which is easily one of the busiest times of the season, the team were super helpful with shuttles, info on bus timetables, recommendations for food and general hospitality. Absolutely loved the hotel and facilities, would come back in a heartbeat

The location is great for access to the Sakka ski lift. Unfortunately we found the place is very run down. It felt more like a hostel. There was hair in the bath and a used toilet roll on our arrival to the room which showed me they don’t do thorough room cleans. The young staff working there were so lovely but I believe management aren’t prioritising guest experience and for the price we paid, this needs to be rectified if they want to ensure guests return season after season.

What a disappointment! The hotel is dated and old, do not let the photos fool you! We stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment and paid peak season pricing as it was Chinese new year week. The main bathroom tap was completely broken so one bathroom basin was unusable. The dishwasher was not unloaded and had a one cm dirty water still left at the bottom, the glasses in the shelves were dirty like someone had drunk orange juice and left it back in the shelves, the fridge was not cleaned. The towel rack had broken off and the hotel just left the broken towel rack on the floor. There were holes on the wall as well! When I spoke to the hotel they laughed and said that a bunch of young men had previously stayed there and it was probably all their doing! Well, not my problem as I expect all these things to be fixed and ready when we check in! The clothes dryer also had a hose drained into a makeshift water bottle and to make matters worst the “water bottle was full” as housekeeping had not drained it. The apartment had scratches all over the floor and did not feel clean. Come on guys .. you have to do a better job than this, this is too shoddy, unprofessional and am never going back!, I wished I did not prepay as I would have taken my family and left the next day!

Wandano Forest Apartments are absolutely incredible—peaceful, beautifully presented, and surrounded by stunning natural forest views that instantly make you feel relaxed. The apartment is spotless, stylish, and incredibly comfortable, with thoughtful details that make it feel both luxurious and homely. Waking up to the quiet of nature and enjoying the calm, fresh air is truly special, making it the perfect place to unwind and escape the busyness of everyday life. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a tranquil, high-quality stay in a beautiful setting. 🌿✨

The last time we visited Hakuba was in 2017, when we stayed at the Wadano Forest Hotel. We loved it so much that it became an unforgettable highlight of our Japan trip, so naturally, we had to return to the same property this time. With a larger group this year, we decided to stay in the apartment building instead of the hotel rooms (both are conveniently located next to each other and owned by the same fantastic host). It’s great to see how Wadano Forest provides options for groups of all sizes. Last time in 2017, I wrote, “location, location, location.” The location is just as perfect as I remembered—it’s only a few minutes’ walk (snow board boots, and apparently there is some trail for skiers to almost ski-in ski-out) to the Sakka slope lift, which takes you directly to the ski tracks without the hassle of long lines or crowds. For those who prefer not to walk, obviously they offer a convenient shuttle to the lifts. The apartment we stayed in this time was very spacious and modern—perfect for our group of five adults and two children. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, making it a wonderful base for our trip. For food, we tried "Izakaya Hie" and "Tori Co" during our stay. "Tori Co" was especially convenient, located just a few minutes’ walk from the property. We also ordered takeaway burgers a few times, which were great—unfortunately, I don’t remember the name of the burger place, but the helpful front desk at the hotel have all these great info, just ask them. Our stay at Wadano Forest was once again fantastic. From the cozy accommodations and helpful service to the unbeatable location, it’s a place we would happily return to again. I’m already looking forward to reminiscing about this trip, and here are some photos to capture these wonderful memories.

From the good reviews I had much higher expectations. The checkin was friendly and the room was ok, although sparcely furnished with tattered pieces. The good: Nice comfortable bed Great views Great water pressure and clean simple bathroom The bad: Very poor breakfast. We had to walk to another building in the snow and cold each morning. The offerings were limited to a few western choices and often not restocked for long periods of time. There are no local Japanese choices. The onsen was closed the first few days due to lack of staff. When open it was way too cold and many of the guest felt it was fine to wear their underwear or board shorts into the water. It was not a great experience, although the onsen room is very nice. The location is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the nearest slope. It is a 40 minute walk to the town where most id the restaurants are. The hotel provides transport between 8am to 10am and then again from 4pm to 6:45pm. Outside of that you are on your own.
