Not long returned from a fortnight at The Golmar Beach Hotel. We've been every year for the last eight years, even during Covid. The Lobby has had a makeover, furniture replaced by modern tables and chairs. Tea and coffee etc. now available all day from machine in lobby, with biscuits/cakes in the afternoon. Many of the complaints in previous reviews have been rectified. New wood laminate flooring in all rooms, new aircon units in all rooms, new flat screen TV in all rooms. We still had an old fridge, but it worked well and large enough for a few bottles of drinks and ice cubes. Cleaner daily, change of towels regularly (sometimes fluffy white). Other changes in the hotel this year include the swimming pool has been totally re-tiled with new edging surround. New loungers and tables around the pool, toppers available for all loungers, if there's not enough out just ask, they are put away each night. The sun terrace has been re-floored and set up as a seating area, with shade or sun, where you can take your drinks from the pool bar to enjoy. Being only a three star hotel, the all-inclusive drinks selection is, as most other three star hotels in Turkey, limited. It includes draught efes, gin, vodka, raki, and Turkish wines. Cocktails are available using these spirits as the base. Drinks are served depending where you will be drinking them, either in glass tumblers or full size rigid plastic beakers. We love the outside restaurant area which overlooks the bay, with wonderful views. Breakfast is great, a large selection to choose from. Cereals, cooked dishes, boiled eggs, salads, meats, cheeses, fruit. Eggs cooked to your wishes at the egg station outside, either fried or omelette. Bread or toast and preserves, honey etc. and freshly made pancakes. Lunch and dinner is still very much Turkish based with soup, several dishes available, plus pide, chips, chicken dippers etc. There's a large selection of salads, always vegetarian choices at all meals. The sweets have always been good here, slightly less selection this year. Drinks available with your meals. Thomas Cook used to supply holidays to this hotel and when they went bust Golmar Hotel owners decided to change their policy, they employed new management, targeted local holidaymakers (Covid also meant not many Uk tourists) and changing from B&B or half board to all inclusive. Unfortunately many UK visitors disliked this change and have chosen to holiday in other hotels in Icmeler. We had a few chats with Ahmet Aydin, the reception manager, in perfect English, extremely friendly and assures us that UK guests are more than welcome at the hotel. There have been staff changes each year, but several familiar faces are still employed. This years staff have all been very friendly and many will chat in fairly good English. Also, this year, there are several lovely young ladies on the restaurant staff. Too many names to thank, all very friendly. We will be back.
