"I had higher expectations for this stay and was a bit disappointed. Firstly, the location of the resort is not great, it’s on a loud highway which makes noise an issue but also makes it extremely difficult to navigate as you can’t turn right across the large highway. We treated ourselves to the buffet one morning and wish we didn’t, there was limited selections for food and the sashimi was far from fresh. We were given a table reservation card and once sat down with our food were asked to move by the staff so another guest could have our table? Very odd and once questioned the staff changed their tune and no longer wanted to move us - seemed the other guest was getting preferential treatment. Parking was also paid which was not clear on the initial listing. We stayed for 3 nights and our room was only cleaned on one day, beds were not even made and rubbish wasn’t taken out - very strange for a 5 star. We only realised staff had been in because toilet paper had been replenished. I was very excited for this stay and was a bit let down, views are nice though!"

"An absolutely delightful choice! The room was spacious, with a separate wet and dry area in the bathroom, a tatami zone, a sofa and coffee table, and a large balcony (which even had a patch of soil for planting!). The hotel's outdoor environment is fantastic, featuring a semi-indoor pool, an outdoor infinity pool, and a specially designated beach swimming area. It’s an amazing experience when the weather is good. Since we arrived just before a typhoon, we were lucky enough to book the last snorkeling trip before it hit (you're supposed to book by 4 PM the day before, but the staff probably offered it because all offshore activities were canceled for the next day). Snorkeling was 6000 JPY per person, and they provided masks, snorkels, fins, and life vests. However, they really didn't teach anything else [facepalm emoji]. But when the two guides came into the water to show the kids sea cucumbers and played underwater, hearing their hearty laughter, I quickly let it go. They probably assumed everyone knew how to do it naturally [dog head emoji]. The kids could stay on the floating board, so the safety factor was quite high. There were 7 of us in total for this session, which lasted from 1 PM to just before 2 PM. For beginners, it was a pretty good experience. The next day, due to the typhoon, all facilities except the semi-indoor pool were closed. We booked the limousine bus at the front desk; they helped us purchase tickets, which were cash-only. It goes directly from the hotel to Naha Bus Terminal or the airport, with departures around 9 AM and at 11:31 AM. It took about an hour to get back to the bus terminal, which was much faster than the OAS bus we took on arrival. Overall, extremely satisfied!"

"The room size was surprisingly large, especially for Japan! You could see the ocean right from the room, which really made it feel like a vacation – absolutely fantastic! The hygiene wasn't as bad as some online reviews suggested, and I was pleasantly surprised by the comprehensive toiletries and amenities provided. If you opt out of daily housekeeping, you can get a 500 or 1000 yen voucher to use at the small shop, which is a nice touch! The hotel's swimming pool is great for kids, and there are also some paid craft activities in the lobby that are perfect for keeping the little ones entertained."

"This is a traditional Japanese hotel and it's very clean overall. The large public bath is open until midnight. However, there aren't many restaurants nearby. The hotel has a small beach where many locals enjoy water activities. Overall, it's great, and I'd come back again. The price is also very reasonable, so I'm very satisfied! You can choose between a bed or a futon on tatami, but you can only pick one option, otherwise there's an extra charge. I didn't confirm the details with the hotel, but if you want to sleep on tatami, I recommend checking with the staff beforehand to see if both guests need to choose the same sleeping arrangement. The bed is also very large; two adults and one child can sleep comfortably without feeling cramped."

"This hotel is split into two buildings: a hotel wing and an apartment wing. The hotel wing boasts incredibly spacious balconies, which is a huge plus! Even though the weather wasn't great, the sea view from the room directly overlooked a stunning 'glass sea,' which was absolutely delightful. While some facilities are a bit dated, they are very well-maintained and you'll find everything you need. The decor has a strong Southeast Asian resort vibe, truly enhancing the vacation experience. You can book the airport limousine bus through the hotel's front desk; they only accept cash, but it's very convenient. The bus arrives punctually at the main hotel lobby. The main pool does not operate in winter, but honestly, it doesn’t feel like a drawback at all—there is so much more to the property than the pool. Breakfast deserves a special mention: it is excellent, with high-quality ingredients and great variety. I highly recommend trying breakfast in different restaurants during your stay, as each offers a slightly different experience. Overall, Halekulani Okinawa is a refined, serene, and beautifully executed resort. The check in was very easy, as was finding the location along of the villa on the beach. The condo/villa is absolutely stunning with a view of the ocean that cannot be beat. We appreciated the gorgeous sunsets, the pool and soaking tub on the 2nd floor balcony, and the outstanding views of the beach and island (Yojima) in the distance. The beds were some of the most comfortable we slept in while in Japan. We deeply appreciated the amenities - breakfast and food delivery (sausages, veggies, fresh bread, eggs and drinks) upon arrival, and found the layout of the house was fantastic for our family of 5. With two sleeping areas downstairs (kids), and an upstairs master bedroom (parents), we had MORE than enough space. One thing we would have liked about the location description online is an understanding that there is VERY little near by in terms of restaurants, convenience stores, etc. Depending on the weather, not much is walkable within 15-20 minutes. We ate at the Taco Rice restaurant, and walked 30 minutes to a local supermarket, and we drove the other places we needed to go. Also, the general impression we got from the website was that you can access the beach directly from the villa - sort of a, ”walk out to the sand” idea. You cannot. There is a 6-foot wall that separates the bottom floor of the villa with the actual beach area (needed for water level rising during storms, we get that :))... but there is no way down without jumping, nor a path to the beach (from our #3/C Villa, at least). We ended up jumping down the retaining wall using their small gate, walking around to a local business area that had a clear path, and accessing the beach that way. This was fine, don't get me wrong. Also, while the view is spectacular (and it really is), there is a TON of rebar from a former construction project (unfinished, we asked around) that sticks up out of the ocean at low, or extremely low tide (both of which we experienced while visiting - the extremely low tide happens each new/full moon, we were told). When this occurs, the beach stretches for 550 yards. We were able to ”walk and explore” (careful of course of the coral!), but for 1.5 days, we had a view of tons and tons of rebar sticking straight out of the sand, that stretched for 100s of yards in each direction. Again, this did not ruin anything, but it would be nice to know when booking a pricey room. I think the views are outstanding, given the timing you take the photo :) Overall, we would likely not stay again for the price, but it was a relaxing and splurge-y way to get that Okinawa sunset in at the end of long trip (5 weeks) in Japan. The hotel has a minimalist design. We were upgraded to a lagoon view room, and the water was beautiful on a good day. There are two small, enclosed beaches, but the sea was still quite cold in May. The two pools close early and apparently won't be open late until September. There are a few massage hot spring pools which are quite comfortable. For breakfast, sometimes you have to get a number and wait for a table. The French toast with cream and jam was super delicious, the bread was so soft it melted in your mouth. The pudding bread was also good. Overall, the desserts and bread were outstanding. The dishes varied daily. On the first day, there was freshly grilled steak, and the bitter melon scrambled eggs were very tasty. On the second day, there was Agu pork hotpot.

Totally enjoyed the stay. View from balcony and outdoor jaccuzzi was perfect. The many bath salts offered also added dimension to the jaccuzzi. Evening drinks coupled with live wind instruments was fun and relaxing too. Close enough walk to many restaurants nearby, a leisurely 10-20mins walk. They were also able to help make a dining reservation at a nearby restauant.

Just as you'd expect from a Hoshino Resort property. The place was spotless, and the amenities were excellent. Beyond the in-house cafe, the food trucks parked outside offered a great variety of dining options, giving guests more freedom of choice. My only slight surprise was finding a small insect in the room, but given the natural surroundings, it's probably unavoidable.

Lovely place — very clean and peaceful. The check-in point wasn’t at the main building, which could be a little confusing at first. It might be helpful to hang a sign or note to notify guests. The check-in was actually in the next car park building, and the stairs are hidden at the back, so it can be difficult to notice. You might not be able to find anyone there too so in that case it's the best to call provided number or let them know the check in time. Other than that they were very kind and helpful in keeping my bags for a while. Also 10 minutes walk to Blue Cave! Thank you🤍

The service was excellent, and the hotel environment was fantastic! The breakfast and dinner were standard buffet style, with above-average quality. However, the staff at the small shops might need more training, as they were unhelpful and seemed clueless, which is not the standard of service expected from a top-tier hotel.

This hotel in Okinawa offered a thoroughly satisfying stay overall. The hotel environment was clean and comfortable, and the room facilities were excellent, allowing for a good night's rest throughout our stay. Its convenient location near the station and popular attractions made shopping and dining incredibly easy. The staff were friendly and the check-in and check-out processes were smooth, providing thoughtful service. This stay added many wonderful memories to our trip, and we would definitely consider staying here again on a future visit to Okinawa.

The facility itself is a bit old, but the sheets and bedding were clean and nice. The ocean view from the room and the quiet surroundings make it a great place to relax. The large public bath is a plus for families. I did find the high step into the unit bathroom in the room a bit dangerous.

We stayed 5 nights at the Beach Resort Kalakaua in a Family Cottage. It was a good size for 2 friends and all of our diving equipment; comfortable, and spacious! The room was clean, and we were given enough towels and toiletries to last 5 days. The location was walking distance to the beach, a few restaurants, and right by the 7-11 which was super handy. We had a lovely stay, but wished that there was somewhere we could hang our wet swimsuits and diving gear, either inside or outside the cabin.

Excellent location and service, the location is superb, being close to not only beaches, but also in-between Yomitan and Onna (and OIST university, if you'd like to visit your friends). There's also a combini right next doors(!. Cape Maeda, Zakimi Castle is also all at cycleable distance!
