My husband and I spent one night at what is widely considered Japan’s finest ryokan and we were not disappointed. I have NEVER experienced hospitality at this level. From the moment you arrive, they are waiting for you out front. They know you are coming. There is no check-in process, no waiting. Just being escorted to your room where somehow your luggage already made it there. A wooden tub with perfectly heated water awaits, after which you don your yakuta and relax with your zen garden view before the most amazing dinner of your life is served in 8 courses over a relaxing 2 hours. There is nowhere to be, and nowhere else you will want to be. It’s like a step back in time. After dinner, your futons are made up for you, you choose whether you’ll have a Japanese or Western-style breakfast in the morning, and select the time it is served. At check-out, the staff make sure you are safely in your taxi (the older woman who took care of us even put her arm around me, held my hand, and escorted me safely across the street to our Uber.) I had to use google translate to tell her that she took better care of us than even our own mothers, which made her laugh. This place is difficult to book, and if you speak no Japanese it can be a bit challenging to communicate, but everyone at Tawaraya does their utmost to make you feel like an honored guest. It’s unparalleled. Well worth the cost.

It was a wonderful inn that lived up to the rumors. I made an online reservation with JTB, and the room was Kotobuki. (There is no website, reservations can only be made by JTB or by phone) As soon as you arrive by taxi, the person who will meet you will carry your luggage, and the flow after that will be extremely smooth. The golden folding screen at the entrance, which changes with the seasons, is beautiful and makes you feel as if you are in an art museum. (The building is old, but the rooms have been renovated, and the furnishings and paintings in the building can be seen at a glance that they are of high value.) The bath is made of Koya-maki, so you can heal the tiredness of your trip. The futon is soft and fluffy, and my mother, who accompanied me, drank beer and fell asleep (laughs) (Beer and tea in the refrigerator are free) And the highlight of this inn is the food that is hard to describe! ! My mother also thanked me for bringing me here.^^ For breakfast, you can choose Japanese or Western food, but the Japanese food of boiled tofu is good, and the Western omelet is the best! (Since we stayed two nights, we were able to enjoy each one.) If you put your shoes on before going out, they will be warmed up, and when you return from your destination, tea and sweets will be served immediately. (At check-in, you can have the famous warabi mochi.) There is no excessive reception, and the extremely modest response is comfortable. I think it's a national treasure-level inn, backed by history and tradition. It was a wonderful ryokan recommended for those who are used to traveling and those who have a discerning eye.

It's been a while. It's a secluded ryokan in Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture. It wasn't big with more than 20 rooms, but it was fully booked. I went to an open-air bath by ropeway It was slippery at 38 degrees Celsius My room had a terrace I tasted the world of pitch darkness for the first time in my life (it was cloudy that day and there was no moon) It was my first experience of pitch darkness. ! What does the starry sky look like? If you pay an additional fee, you can also eat game dishes.I was surprised that Tokushima still had such nature. It was a precious trip.

I'm happy just to be able to stay in a newly built building when it was destroyed by fire in the Hamaguri Gomon Incident. Moreover, the cleaning is spotless. The food is delicious, but it would be even better if there was a little more punch. I want you to do your best!
