Corte San Pietro

We found the perfect place for our magical stay in Matera. Corte San Pietro is a beautifully designed hotel comprised of a block of buildings with guest rooms. These buildings are organized around a large gathering hall with comfortable seating in a traditional setting where breakfast and aperativi are served... and special areas for relaxation in the caves are just a few steps below this area. Matera is a physically demanding town to explore because of the steep hillside and cobblestone stairs throughout the historic area. What is great about Corte San Pietro is a location on a main road that makes it easy to unpack and get settled and oriented without trouble or struggle. And we cannot say enough about the team at this hotel who were so helpful and accommodating before and during our stay. They organized dinner reservations for us (not easy since many establishments were closed during the low season when we visited) and tours... provided great sight-seeing recommendations and directions... provided a multi-part breakfast that was nothing short of a feast of local specialties... and were available at all times to assist with baggage, extra provisions for the room and help explaining the features of our well-appointed guest room. We even ran into the hotel manager during our climb up one of the historic stairways and she stopped to give us help with directions and recommendations. There may be many hotels and B&Bs in Matera, but don't be fooled-- they are not all created equal and Corte San Pietro stands tall among them.

It is a wonderful place to stay! The "cave" room we had was well appointed and unlike anything we have stayed in before. I was trying to go to the little town outside of Matera called Salandre where my family originated from and they hooked my up with a local geneologist and let me use their computer to look up and print birth certificates! Everything about it was lovely.

Beautifully restored hotel and lovely staff especially Anna, that made us feel very welcome. Amazing breakfast, great location. Very clear instructions on where to park given before our visit and restaurant recommendations. I would not stay anywhere else if I was to visit Matera again!

A wonderful hotel rooms in the caves , luxurious. The staff were wonderful and very accomodati g. The hotel has been furnished to a very high standard, it was superb and wouldn’t hesitate to go again.

All staff working in Corte san pietro had their own responsibility to help and support their guest, perfectly. It was my best choice to stay in Matera and because of their great hospitality, we had a wonderful honeymoon in Italy. I could feel their love towards their facilities. Please choose this hotel, if you are planning to come to Matera.

We wanted to stay in the Matera Sassi district - this hotel was perfect. It started with staff offering to book a car park in the new area of town. It was walkable to the hotel but we chose to take them up on their offer to have a driver pick us up at the car park - 20 euro for 4 adults. The garage is new and was the easiest parking we've ever had in Italy. Hint: if you're driving, use Google maps on your phone instead of the car's nav system to get to the garage. The car system took us to the wrong place and we talked to another couple who had the same experience. When we put in google nav, we got to the garage easily. Check in was easy and very welcoming. We got lots of info and a nice orientation to our rooms. Everyone was telling us "relax, this is your home now and we will take care of everything" (and they did). Our rooms were lovely, ours even had a sauna in the larger shower. Nice amenities like robes and slippers and cold bottles of water in fridge at no charge. Note that the rooms are carved out of caves so they are on the dark side. I asked for an extra lamp, and it was very promptly brought to our room. Beds were quite comfy. Breakfast was fantastic! Lots of typical Italian foods along with American basics. The coffee was great, and our waitress cheerfully accommodated our requests. Finally, location is perfect - we walked everywhere. Didn't need the car at all during our 2 night visit. All in all a five star experience!

Absolutely LOVED this place. A beautiful mix of old history with modern amenities and exceptional service! The location was also perfect for exploring this ancient city!
