Hotel Rifugio Prategiano

I went to Prategiano in September. The hotel was nice and the food was great. But the best of all were the lovely horses, lovely people and lovely views. It was absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for this experience!

We went with a family of four and had a lovely time. This is a family-run hotel relatively secluded (quite a drive from Western Germany - be sure to plan the trip with at least one over night-stop) with a horse riding and mountain biking facilities. Pros: - genuinely friendly, caring hotel staff and mostly very motivated volunteers who run the stables; small issues (not working toilet; request to change rooms etc) are being dealt with flexibly, efficiently and kindly - English and German (and Italian, of course) speaking admin staff, responding quickly to all sorts of questions prior to arrival - perfect for completely unexperienced as well as experienced riders and anyone in between - good food quality (dinner) - an amazing view from the terrace, on which all meals are served - clean rooms and premises - good-sized clean swimming pool - amazing landscape - not overcrowded - 60 to 90 mins drive to lovely beaches - overall good value for money (based on summer 2023 prices) Cons: - it is a three star hotel and really not more; not sure if this is actually a "con", because they don't claim to be anything else - the food variety, if you book half-board (which we recommend, because there is really only one restaurant nearby), is limited, specifcially if you don't eat meat - the breakfost options are too limited - the lunches during the half-day rides are not good value for money - not really doable without a car unless for short-term stays Out bottom line is a CLEAR recommendation from our end (and we have already recommended it to various friends) - we are thinking of coming back!

We can highly recommend the hotel Prategiano and its very nice team. They tried to fulfill every wish we had! Always kind and helpful. The view was stunning! The accommodation and food (3 star national category) were good for us as expected. The room was well equipped and absolutely fine for our purposes. The pool was sufficient and with the pool landscape it created a beautiful picture on the hotel grounds. The whole area was very well maintained, very natural - just as we had imagined Tuscany. Our two (large) dogs were welcome everywhere, which surprised us very positively. The children were happy that we were allowed to take the dogs to dinner and even to the pool. Everyone (staff and guests) was very, very friendly and always interested in fulfilling our wishes. The riding lessons were worth the price because you were given very individual instruction and you really got something out of it, even if it was a slightly different riding style than we were used to. Despite the children and dogs, the peace and quiet was extremely noticeable, which really surprised us in a positive way. Everyone had a great time and yet we were all able to relax incredibly thanks to the peace and quiet and all the natural surroundings. The usual, typical tourist experience was not noticeable here either, although there were guests of different nationalities. That was very pleasant. The entire staff spoke different languages ​​throughout (German, English, Italian, etc.). We didn't use the mountain bike offer and therefore can't say anything about it. We find the price-performance ratio to be very good. Unfortunately we had a long journey, but we would love to come back in the future. Based on our experience as a family with 2 children (7 years, 12 years) and 2 large dogs, we can definitely recommend the hotel, especially if someone is looking for a relaxing vacation with Tuscan flair and still plans activities. We really enjoyed our time at the Hotel Prategiano. Thank you for that!

My son and I stayed here for 8 days. Everything was absolutely fabulous. First and most importantly the staff were wonderful. While very few of them were fluent in English, we managed to figure things out together. The food was absolutely fabulous! Breakfast was buffet and had a great variety of choices. Coffee was excellent, that's important. Having lunch on the trail or in the forest was magical. Exploring the abandoned hotel and the spa was one of the high points for us. Don't miss this lunch excursion. But the most important thing for us was the horseback riding. I have been a horse owner for most of my life. I've also been a horseback riding instructor for about 20 years. All of the horses were very well cared for and in excellent physical condition. The horse back riding guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and absolutely safety conscious. I honestly looked at some of the hills, both up and down, and said to myself I don't think that we can make that. But having faith in my guides and my horse, up and down we went, Rocky trails, through lavender Fields, and even splashing through pristine streams. The horses were absolutely fearless and completely reliable and steady even in tricky situations. I have never in my life had such wonderful experiences on horseback. It's absolutely indescribable, it's that good! Since my son is not a horseback riding enthusiast, he took our dog on walks in the beautiful forests and hills surrounding the hotel. There's something for everyone here. I highly recommend this vacation spot. We're already planning on returning.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in this beautiful hotel in the Tuscan hillside, near the town of Montieri. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere makes it feel more like a home than a hotel. The common areas are perfect for relaxing with a book or a glass of wine! And those views!!! They truly are spectacular. Food in the restaurant was very tasty. This is not high end, fancy food, but all meals were enjoyable with pasta and a choice of meat / vegetarian dishes. The rooms are basic, but v clean and comfortable. The pool area is nice and quiet, plenty of space in the sun and shade to lie out. A nice place to relax after a few hours in the saddle. The horseriding was excellent, with safe, strong and forward horses. I did four half days (morning ride) and one hour evening ride. For more experienced riders I would recommend the half or full day rides. Each day the trail went somewhere new, so you get to explore different parts of the beautiful Tuscan countryside. I rode four different horses, all lovely, yet different. The trails go up and down some hilly terrain, with a few fast trots and canters thrown in when the terrain permits. If you want a fast paced trail ride this may not be the best option for you. If you want a reasonably challenging ride with amazing views on excellent horses then this is the place to go. Caja and the stables team are super and take great care of all the riders. The hotel organised transfers to and from the train station in Follonica and also to Siena as I wanted to do an afternoon of sightseeing. All transfers were reasonably priced. Highly recommend hotel Prategiano for solo travellers (like me), couples and families ( including those traveling with dogs). Definitely a special place I hope to return to some day.

A nice place to stay, if you like to do some sports (biking, horse riding, walking) it is the ideal place. A very nice pool area gives you the perfect chillout at the evening before or after lunch. All the staff members are really helpful and polite. And in the surrounding villages there is also a lot of nice places to be visited.

Very nice hotel, very friendly people, beautiful landscape. We chose the hotel also for horse riding, our daughter could get daily a training. Training was individual based on the level, perfectly done. Dog was absolutely no problem, we really enjoyed the week.

We discovered Hotel Prategiano two years ago when we were searching for a dog friendly Hotel in Tuscany. We were there for the second time now, and we absolutely love it! Super friendly Team, awesome food, awesome scenery, and a very nice Hotel! Also there are great activities like horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, or even just going to the beach - everything at Prategiano is perfect for us. You can rent high-class E-Mountainbikes at the hotel and go for a ride, or you take a tour horseback riding with one of the beautiful horses of the very own Scuderia of Hotel Prategiano... We and our 2 big dogs enjoyed our time there again, and of course we will come back soon!
