I’m sure the Duck Inn will respond to this comment with attitude about how we didn’t read the room description, and so our dissatisfaction is our fault, but the photos and descriptions are misleading. We stayed in 102 and 304. We paid $406 per night per room. That’s $2437 in total for three nights. The problem with this place is what they deliberately don’t tell you. There are no elevators. There is no fridge. The bathrooms are tiny and difficult to move around, with little to no surfaces to place your toiletries. We were given two towels for showering, and that was it. Yes, they provided more towels when we requested them, but they do not provide any of the rooms with hand towels or washcloths (we asked). Nor do they provide tissues. Also, the water pressure is very weak and it takes a long time for the water to heat up. Overall, both rooms we stayed in were exceptionally small and challenging to move around. Again, there were no tables or surfaces to place anything on. There was a wardrobe but it wasn’t easy to get into, especially in room 304 where it was placed in the corner beside the bed. The wall heater was extremely loud and disturbing throughout the night with persistent banging. It would have no doubt disrupted the nearby rooms as well, that’s how loud it was. The restaurant had good food, but you had to pay a minimum of $74 per person. We learned to purchase food from the grocery store for nights 2 and 3. Unfortunately, there was no fridge to store the groceries, so we couldn’t buy much. The Inn offers a mini fridge to rent but at this price, all rooms should have a refrigerator included. I would give the Inn 0 stars, except the staff were friendly, so 1 star it is.
Response from Property: Thankyou for taking your time to write a review. It seems that it was your first time staying in an Alpine Hotel, yet your expectations are that of Melbourne Hilton. We ae very please that you thought that the restaurant had good food and staff were friendly. 4 stars for service from you must be excellent. Our room sizes are exactly as described and the pictures reflect that. To achieve what you seek in an Alpine hotel at Mt Buller please book Breathtaker at $900 per night per room or an apartment where you can cook at $1,200 per night.

The room was expensive for its offering and far from the village also the restaurant food was poor and breakfast was minimal with poor coffee, one staff member was very rude… not good value or a good experience

Stayed at the Duck Inn for 3 nights. Overall the venue itself, whilst renovated, is quite dated. But it’s cozy and the staff are lovely - except maybe at times there isn’t enough of them so cleaning up may be lagging (breakfast time). The sound travels (often heard people walking above us) but we had a baby so used a white noise machine and it was fine. The room we stayed in was super clean and comfortable - even the heating was super warm that we didn’t even need doonas! The restaurant downstairs offers delicious food for dinner but their continental breakfast could use some love - perhaps throw in some bakery goods and pastries and some cheeses or something - pretty basic esp for those staying more than one night. But overall somewhat over-priced for what it is - would rate it a 3 star. If you are looking for somewhere cozy to stay on the mountain that won’t break the bank and you don’t mind basic - this is your place!
Response from Property: Thankyou for your review. Its very nice that you enjoyed your stay.

Great Alpine Hotel. The beds are super comfortable with pillow tops. Simple breakfast in the morning gets you started. Centrally heated with good temperature at night so you dont get dehydrated and get a headache. We will stay again.

Stayed for 1 night to experience the snow and other fun activities at Mt Buller. We've got a great view of trees covered with snow from our room terrsce. The heater in our room plus in the shower room was well-working. Room was big enough to fit in 4 pax. Breakfast buffet was quite simple. Definitely, not for those who wants to have a heavy starter in the morning. Being an asian customer, i think the dinner meal at the resto/lounge bar was a bit pricey. The staff tried their best to assist all customers, especially on a winter season where almost all customers need to rent a ski snd snowboard gear. Overall, it's a good place to spend for a night.

Disappointing stay. Pros; bed comfortable and bedding was warm and showers have hot water though take a couple of mins to warm up which is fine; 10min walk to centre, clean. Bus stop 1min walk (though best to walk as it is the last stop and usually full) . You can purchase a fridge for $40. Gear hire is on site and staff are friendly. Coffee (albeit international roast instant) and tea is available during the day to make yourself. I requested new towels on day 3 and was given them. Cons: Bed sheets had black marks on them. It was towards the bottom and they were clearly short staffed so decided not to say anything. The breakfast consisted of three cereal choices - cornflakes, weetbix and crunchy cornflakes and toast with jam etc. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in all the adjoining and nearby rooms including the room across the hall and down the hallway and across another hallway. Housekeeping in the adjoining room coughed blew their nose and heavily breathed (obviously had a very bad cold) the whole time they were cleaning the rooms across the hall and nearby rooms (as I said paper thin walls) clearly should had been sent home. Families travelling together with children were running around the place (two nights in a row) for over three hours screaming running yelling knocking in doors and the adults yelling to friends to open their doors and the staff did nothing - you can can hear it from down stairs as well as on the first floor. I have a child so fairly tolerant of normal child noise but the kids and families were treating the place like a park and I’m not sure what else involves adults screaming to each other down hallways and through closed doors. Told staff member (where I had to speak really loudly to be heard over the noise up stairs) who spoke to one of the rooms involved. It stopped for 20mins. Then started again. Probably should have said something the first night but thought they were all just excited being their first night or something and the staff would sort it out. After they left the noise levels reduced significantly. Bathroom light turns on then immediately turns off so you have to turn it on a second time then randomly turns on from time to time. Restaurant was not open yet so can’t comment. Only free to air tv but I knew that when I booked. Internet is pretty woeful. The staff advised everyone on the mountain relies on the same satellite or something so it’s always bad. Not a bad place if you know what your getting into.
Response from Property: Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay. We appreciate your honesty and would like to apologize for the aspects of your stay that fell short of your expectations. Your insights help us identify areas for improvement and provide a better experience for our guests in the future. We're glad to hear that you found some positives during your stay, including the comfortable bed, warm bedding, and availability of hot showers. We also appreciate your acknowledgement of our friendly staff and the convenience of on-site gear hire. We're sorry to hear about the issues you encountered, such as the black marks on the bed sheets and the noise disturbances from other guests. We understand that noise disruptions can significantly impact the quality of your stay, and we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced. We'll address your concerns about thin walls and disruptive behavior with our staff to ensure a more pleasant environment for all guests. Regarding the breakfast options, we understand that the selection may not have met your expectations. We'll take your feedback into consideration as we evaluate and improve our offerings. We apologize for the issues you faced with the bathroom light and the internet. Your feedback will be used to address these technical issues and improve the overall experience. We appreciate your understanding that the satellite-based internet service on the mountain can be challenging due to shared resources. However, we'll continue to explore ways to improve this aspect for our guests. We value your feedback and hope that, despite the disappointments, you were able to appreciate the positives of your stay. We're committed to using your insights to make necessary improvements and ensure a more enjoyable experience for all future guests. Thank you for your understanding and your detailed review.

I was organising a group trip and Aleks went above and beyond to make our weekend enjoyable and stress free. From the moment of booking, he was approachable and happy to answer any questions. Accommodation is very comfortable, warm and cozy with ski hire on site which is just a huge bonus! There is also a bar with a fire pit area, which was a nice spot for our group to get together over a glass of wine after a long day of skiing. Thank you Aleks and Duck Inn team!

We stayed for 2 nights during ski season. Our room was spotless. The ensuite was so clean. Very helpfully and friendly service. We will stay again as the room size, level of cleanliness was excellent - and at a very good price!

The location is pretty good but with skis you need to take a shuttle bus. Good ski hire. Room very tired with wallpaper peeled off walls. Poor towels. Had to ask for extra pillow (but they were provided). Kettle in room but no mugs or glasses (they then provided). Very cold in day (we didn't ski one afternoon in bad weather) but told the radiators won't come on until 4pm! The kids were freezing. Comfy beds. Breakfast VERY basic. Just toast and cereal (and pancakes for the kids). No hot option. Only instant coffee - you have to buy decent coffee. Staff friendly. Overall it was OK but we wouldn't go back.

Worst accomodation. Room comedically tiny with a pillar in the corner for you to walk into in the night. Bed was almost wall to wall and no other furniture, no chair. No fridge. Bathroom just a joke. Towels and blankets are threadbare and not good enough to put in the charity bin. Literally rags. Curtains and cushion on bed filthy. Staff extremely unhappy and unreceptive. No lift to 3rd floor. Drag your bags up and down very dangerous stairs. Lighting sensors don’t work and lights switch off on the middle of walking through pitch black areas. Walls thin and we were lucky enough to be on the same floor as a family having a domestic. Bogans a plenty. Poorly located and tedious to get in and out on buses with bad tempered drivers. After 6 you’re pretty much stranded. Everyone is bad tempered in Mt Buller and seems to hate working there. After skiing, went back to duck inn to shower and change for dinner. NO HOT WATER THAT NIGHT AT ALL. DISGRACEFUL. NO POINT COMPLAINING AS STAFF JUST STARE BLANKLY. I would be embarrassed to own this joint.
