Poor services. No help with luggage’s despite have many stairs in the hotel. The staff seemed uninterested in offering services. Much worse than most onsen hotels in Japan. Best avoid.

Excellent vibe in ryokan that dates back 300 years. The staff were incredibly helpful as we don't speak Japanese, although there were hardly any other foreigners there (unlike Nikko 2 hours south, which was overwhelmed by tourists). Excellent hot baths, mixed gender and segregated. The Kaiseiki dinner was wonderful. To get there you cross a small swing bridge over a river made of vines and bamboo. A unique experience. Stayed 3 nights, and could have stayed longer. Very relaxing. A short walk away was Heike no sato, a beautiful little village with reconstructed old buildings packed with small museum objects - especially beautiful in autumn ( the leaves were spectacular). Highly recommended.

温泉、食事、お部屋、接客のどれをとっても素晴らしいお宿でした。 湯西川沿いにありお部屋からの眺めも素晴らしい。 四季折々の催しもあり、今の紅葉の季節も最高です。 また、いつか伺いたいと思います。

家族で憧れの宿に宿泊しました。一見、建物は普通なのですが、一旦中に入ると別世界。氷柱やかずら橋の絶景が飛び込んできます。露天風呂付きの部屋も良く、かずら橋を渡った対岸での個室夕食は、料も質も最高です。内風呂は普通、男性露天風呂は、川に手が届きそうな位(2m程あるので無理ですが)で、泳ぐヤマメも見えてとても趣きがあります。朝食は、川床のような素敵な場所で、味も量も丁度良いと思います。気になった点は、部屋を案内する際に部屋を失念していた事、食事所のスタッフの香水がきつ過ぎる事、朝ロビーで飲み物を用意している姿が非常に雑なところです。ロケーションも風呂も最高、料理も最高、残念ながら、人は努力が必要、と言っても、悪いというレベルではなく、残念だな〜と思うレベルです。これが揃えば、更に宿は素晴らしくなると感じました。

ずっと憧れていた旅館に宿泊しました。幹線道路に面した門構えと建物は、イメージしていたよりも地味で、ここが憧れていた旅館だったのか？が第一印象です。しかしながら、玄関に一歩足を踏み入れた瞬間から、窓越しに見える氷柱やかずら橋の光景は、それはそれは素晴らしく、一同感激しました。流石！と言わざると得ません。ロビーでのフリードリンクもとても良いです。露天風呂付の部屋も素晴らしく、部屋からの眺めも素晴らしく、ここまでは120点。他方、案内する部屋を失念する、食事所のスタッフの香水がきつすぎる、早朝ロビーで準備する姿が荒っぽく見える等、残念ながら人的なものがマイナスとなり80点、食事に関しては、夕食は個室で量も多くとても美味しい、朝食も川沿いでとても景観が良く美味しい、但し、席が２名ずつなので、大人数の場合は席を分けられてしまうマイナスと、折角食事のプラスも、結果90点。マイナスがなければ、150点位は付けられる程の１流旅館も、２流以下へとなってしまうのは非常に残念で、要改善すべきかと思います。振り返ると、、、総じて満足出来る旅館だと思いました。

少しアクセスがしづらいような、奥まったところにある宿を探し、たどり着きました。標高が高く、料理には制限もあるかと思いますが、品目数は盛りだくさん！そしてどのお料理の味付けも上品かつ、テーマがあり、特に山椒と湯"波"には舌鼓をうちました。接客に関しても、女将の指導なのか、担当がしっかり棲み分けされており、若い従業員の方々が、適度に、でもしっかりと心遣いをしてくださり、大大大大大満足の旅になりました！！新型コロナウイルスの関係で、湯西川温泉としてのかまくら祭は中止となってしまいましたが、旅館では、ミニカマクラの点灯をしており、そちらの撮影もとても楽しめました！！ありがとうございました。
