Spent a long weekend at the hotel with my wife, daughter and niece a few weeks ago. The stay at the hotel started really badly, very badly must say. When arrived to check-in the lady at the front desk told me that because I guaranteed by booking with my Amex card, I had to fully pay the stay and call Amex for them to release the hold. Told her that this is not how this works, and that they are the ones who have to release the hold on my card and that when they processed it they should have received an authorization code which they need to use to release the held amount on the card. I insisted that this was the way to do it. The young (and very nice) lady at the front desk clearly didn't have experience on this, so I asked to talk to the manager. Manager was not working during the weekend (it was Friday though) so I suggested for her to call her. I told her that I wanted to avoid being charged twice on my card and so far she couldn't give me comfort that it was not going to be the case. She agreed, called the manager, we all could overhear the conversation and for my shocking surprise the manager told her that this was not an emergency, that she should sort it out and that she should never call her again on a weekend for a non-critical/emergency issue. The poor young lady didn't know what to do and almost broke in tears.....so I suggested that I pay one night and she takes the rest of the stay from the hold on my card (as usually happens. She was so nervous and stressed that we really felt sorry for her. The conversations with her manager left her almost blocked and frozen. And must say that never witnessed such an unsupportive and rude manager. Really shocking rudeness. And by the way, having no manager on duty, over a weekend, on a tourist hotel in a city like Paris shows quite poor judgement. Hotels are like hospitals....are always open. Leaving this unfortunate event aside, the stay was great. Nice boutique hotel, newly renovated, clean rooms, well located, friendly staff, easy to reach key attractions either walking or with the metro. Beds were quite comfortable and pillows nice too. It was a very cold weekend and challenging to keep the room warm during the night was that the blinds are long and cover the heating radiator, hence the radiator heats the blind and not the room. Didn't try breakfast so no views on the food. Overall, nice hotel for a weekend stay in Paris.
