Hotel Peralada Wine Spa & Golf

"On a wine tasting trip round and about Cataluna, our group stayed the final night at this lovely hotel. The rooms were spacious with small balconies overlooking the golf course and mountains. There was a terrace off the bar for afternoon drinks. The wifi was iffy in the room so I had to go to reception to use my iPad. Our dinner there, in the Aires Restaurant, supervised by former El Bulli chef, Xavier Sagrista, a tasting menu, was delicious and the breakfast also very nice. The bathroom was large with separate tub and shower, bathrobe and slippers, a nice basket of amenities but no bottled water or washcloth/face flannel (Take your own.) Everything was immaculate. We did not have time to take advantage of the spa facilities, walk to the castle or play golf; hence my wish to have been able to stay longer. It is a lovely hotel and the dinner was excellent."

"Don't trust the photos. The hotel is actually very old, the renovation lacks attention to detail, and the paint smell is extremely strong. There's nothing interesting nearby either. The photos only show some nicer corners."

"The rooms have very small windows! The ventilation system has two settings: hot and cold, and it's switched on for the entire hotel. If you're hot, there's no solution. The window is small and not sufficient for ventilation. The hotel is a former farm. The problem can be solved by either moving to rooms with a larger window or by using ingenuity and turning off the circuit breaker in the electrical panel. The staff can't help because it's winter, according to the calendar. And the heating is on. The breakfasts and udins are okay, but the waiters don't speak English at all and mix up the dishes when ordering. The menu with English translations needs to be numbered."
