Santangelo Resort & Spa ★★★★

"Remote, Unwelcoming, and Not Worth the Cost I stayed at the Hotel Santangelo Resort & Spa from 11–15 September 2025, and it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had. Although I chose this property for its price and supposed proximity to local sites, it turned out to be extremely remote. Walking anywhere is unsafe—the roads are narrow, with no consideration for pedestrians. I am able‑bodied, but anyone with mobility issues should avoid this location entirely. I booked a superior room with a balcony but was given one with only a bi‑fold window. The room itself was clean and the bathroom acceptable, but the fridge barely worked (a bottle of water took over six hours to chill), and requests for something as simple as ice were refused. The hotel constantly pushed guests to book meals and spa services. The restaurant was often filled with conferences or locals, the menu was repetitive and overly “fine dining,” and asking for something simple like pizza was frowned upon. While the cleaning and grounds staff were friendly, the reception staff were rude, dismissive, and spoke little English—every request felt like an inconvenience, so I eventually stopped asking. If you’re hoping to use this as a base for Sorrento, Capri, or the Amalfi Coast, think again. The winding roads make every journey exhausting, and travel sickness tablets are practically essential. The pool was freezing and almost always empty, and the sister hotel across the road meant crossing a dangerous street just to get food or drinks. As a solo traveller, I was glad my stay was only four nights. I even missed breakfast twice due to early tours, and no packed lunch was offered. Between the constant fireworks, the unwelcoming atmosphere, and the lack of basic hospitality, I cannot recommend this hotel. If you want remote, this might suit you—but otherwise, avoid it."

"We stayed one night in midweek September. Very nice swimming pool and excellent chef who is extremely talented. The bedroom was tired and needed an update. Quite cramped and hot. Creaking bed and v thin sheets. However for one night we could manage."

"Beautiful resort. The food, rooms and setting are outstanding. The pool is beautiful and the environment is simply stunning. It is a one of a kind destination. The only thing that’s missing is a local taxi company. A car is a must if visiting this resort as taxi drivers are reluctant to go into the mountains and the busses are unreliable. Our plans were ruined our first day due to transport issues. A taxi man happened to drive past us as we were waiting for a bus and he ended up arranging our taxis for the duration of our holiday."

Santangelo Resort & Spa ★★★★
"We stayed here for a weekend. Location not very convenient, but has ample parking. Comfortable and spacious rooms. Very small swimming pool. Super helpful staff. Fair price. The organization of the pool needs to be improved, sunbeds broken and too few."

"Arrival and First Impressions During my visit, I was immediately struck by the highly satisfactory experience I encountered. A minor hiccup occurred when my travel companion and I inadvertently passed our intended bus stop. In an effort to reach our hotel, we attempted to book an Uber, but none were available in the area. Fortunately, a local gentleman kindly offered us a ride without expecting any compensation. His thoughtfulness and concern, especially upon realizing that we were tourists, left a lasting impression. At the bus stop, several women also extended their help, guiding us through the bus system and sharing useful advice about the app, which further eased our journey. Accommodation and Amenities Upon arriving at the hotel, we found it to be impeccably clean and welcoming, with a distinct family-oriented atmosphere. The food served was excellent with late hours, which was awesome since we normally arrived late after tours and exploring the nearby towns. The food and drinks were reasonably priced, adding to our comfort. Although the weather was too cold to enjoy the pool, its illuminated nighttime appearance was particularly appealing. While the staff's English proficiency was somewhat limited, they consistently demonstrated a remarkable willingness to communicate and ensure our needs were met, making our stay very pleasant. Location and Accessibility Despite the hotel's distance from central locations, its proximity—just 12 miles from Castel del Monte—and convenient train access to Sorrento provided reliable and affordable transportation options. Additionally, a nearby store made it easy to obtain essential items such as water, fresh coffee, espresso, beer, etc. The store attendant was not only helpful but also communicated effectively in English. Community and Atmosphere The town itself radiated a calm and welcoming atmosphere, with genuine hospitality evident in every interaction. The local markets were lively and colorful, offering fresh produce and artisanal goods that enhanced the town's charm. Exploring the neighborhoods revealed picturesque streets and friendly residents, many of whom were eager to share recommendations for sightseeing and dining. Each day presented new opportunities to engage with the local culture. Lasting Impressions Although the occasional language barrier posed minor challenges, the community's warmth and resourcefulness continually enriched my visit. As my stay drew to a close, I felt a true sense of connection and gratitude for the memorable experiences and the welcoming spirit that defined my time in this remarkable place."

"What a find. Great room, lovely pool, fabulous staff and a lovely restaurant. We booked the restaurant for the day after our arrival but decided to get involved on arrival too. Lovely food, great attention to detail, a good wine list. We have been well looked after and we are only a day in. Lying by the pool with a Spritz staring at the mountains, listening to a very content six year old in the pool. Lovely sunsets and a very relaxed vibe beneath the Olive trees. The poolside bar service was excellent and efficient. The snacks, lunches and drinks were very good. It was enjoyed by young and old, from couples to families. I'm sure we will be back and will be happy to recommend it. A day before our departure a small toy monkey got stuck in the sheets and accidentally visited the laundary. We reassured our daughter that a full search was underway. She had so much fun by the pool, making new friends, it wasn't the tragedy it could have been. On returning from a meal out on our last night we entered the room to find a large paper bag and a card waiting on our daughter's bed. To our amazement there was a new, much larger monkey, that she has immediately fallen in love with. This service is above and beyond. That someone took that time to go out to find a monkey on a Sunday when they all work so hard is truly memorable. She has been named 'Olivia' after the olives that grace the land here. Thank you for a wonderful stay"
