We really enjoyed our recent stay at the hotel Walther. We were made to feel welcome right away and given a room in line with the preferences we expressed. All staff seemed really friendly, helpful and well-trained. Our room was lovely and had a balcony overlooking Pontresina and the mountains beyond. The hotel is really well placed to reach all the nearby attractions and the bus stop is right outside the entrance. What we particularly enjoyed was the meals included in our half board package. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels including the Ritz in London and St Regis Bora Bora and the food was so exquisite in the Grand restaurant at hotel Walther that we felt it was on par with the best restaurants we have had the pleasure to sample. I would thoroughly recommend taking the half board package, and not bothering with the other restaurants for dinner. I would however, suggest having lunch or an afternoon snack at Gondolezza, as it is a unique experience having delicious fondue in an old Cable Car gondola. Our 8-year-old son really enjoyed playing in the kids' room and would leave our table as soon as he had finished his main course. This allowed him to have fun with other kids and for us to have some time to enjoy the rest of our meal as a couple. However, my one criticism would be that it would be great if there was some supervision in the playroom as some of the behaviour in there was unruly, i.e. children jumping on top of one another and throwing balls from the ball pit around. Nonetheless our son enjoyed the experience and we were all very sad to leave this magnificent hotel.

As Mrs. Walther was trying to figure out what to do, the assistant manager and the elder lady at the front desk were rude and condescending to me. All I did was ask a question and I got rude comments and answers back. I did not ask for anything for free but got treated like I wanted something for free. I just wanted what I paid for and my reservations for my honeymoon that I made. I am a restaurant owner and I would NEVER treat ANYONE the way your staff treated me. My staff would be fired in heart beat for the way they interacted with me. No questions asked. Especially if it was someone’s special day on Valentine’s Day/honeymoon. Mrs. Walther, you said you responded to Mark from *******, but I don’t have any emails as I stated. I never asked for anyone to cancel my reservations. I traveled 6 hrs by train and bus. Left my other reservation to come to your hotel and enjoy my honeymoon with my wife. I confirmed with your staff working at 11:30pm-12am that my reservations were ready before getting up and coming to you. May you please tell me why I am being charged for my reservation if you already canceled it? Can you show me the email that you guys responded canceling my room? Can you tell me why I was treated like dirt/trash for asking a simple question by your two staff members? Can you tell me why when I called to confirm my honeymoon, no notes were taken by your staff? Nothing is making sense to me. I really wanted to enjoy my stay but now my whole honeymoon is ruined for nothing. On top of it, you are charging me for a room you already canceled. Looking forward to your response and hopefully a proof of you canceling my hotel because I don’t see it, but you guys claimed it was sent! I will make sure to let the world know how you treat people coming into your hotel for their special occasions.

My husband and I have stayed in many wonderful hotels but nothing can beat our experience at the Hotel Walther in Pontresina. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous with large, quiet rooms. We had a junior-suite with a balcony overlooking the valley. This was a much-appreciated upgrade from the hotel on the occasion of our 56th wedding anniversary. The service was second to none. All members of the staff were attentive to any and all of our needs including the owners themselves who checked on the guests as though each one of us was a close friend or family member. The food was delicious as well. We ate in three of the five restaurants and were not disappointed in any of them. Our personal favorite was the fondue restaurant, a former gondola car, in the park across the street from the main building. I would be remiss if I did not mention the beautiful indoor pool. Finally, the setting in Pontresina is magical. We had a fabulous stay at the Hotel Walther.

My family made a visit to hotel Walther from Sun, 14th Aug-Tue, 16 Aug, We were met by the very friendly reception and Mr Walther himself, when we arrived we found out that our rooms had been upgraded, and they were interconnecting. The hotel provides a card for free public transport and cable car/train rides! That night we had dinner at the bar, the food and service was very good. The next morning we had a buffet-style breakfast with lots of food variety. That day we used our hotel-provided cards to go on a chairlift and the Funicular to the top of the mountain. Later we went to the pool, which was very nice, but sadly I cut my toe on one of the tiles, once the hotel staff found out they were very accommodating and gave me medicine and bandages to heal the cut, later they gave me a tray of chocolates for the inconvenience. That night we had dinner at La Trattoria the food and the service were very good. The next day we left and Mr Walther said goodbye. Throughout the whole trip, Mr Walther was very friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel was amazing and so was the staff and they were always ready to help out! Monty, age 13

Hotel Walther is extraordinary, the host is very attentive to her guests, with personalised service. Swimming in the pool before breakfast, finished with a spa provided a perfect start to the day. The styling is superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Deborah & Maxine

This was our fourth hotel on our European vacation and definitely the most elegant. Always quick to respond to emails in making reservations. Our room with a wonderful balcony view was exquisite — sitting area, wonderful bed, and even double sinks in the well thought out bathroom. Service was impeccable from check in to check out. The owners were on site and eager to meet their guests. The guest pass allowed you free bus passages, cable cars and much more. First class in every way.

Wonderful hotel with a friendly welcoming staff. We spent two days in Switzerland after spending the majority of our trip in Northern Italy. We had delicious meals served by incredibly friendly professional staff. Enjoyed the spa, pool, tea cakes and the lounge. Would definitely return. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Pros: -Great location - close to hikes, and great restaurants, all walkable. Pontresina itself is a charming little Swiss town, much more so than saint Moritz in my opinion -Impeccable service - I can't stress enough how attentive every single person was -They give you public transportation passes, easily worth $50 per person per day -Beautiful castle like architecture. The hotel it's self is very picturesque - best hotel breakfast I've had in Europe Cons : - there is no air-conditioning. In summer months it's really hard to get a good night's rest. You can't just open a window because there's a swarm of bugs. To their credit, they did provide a fan, but that really didn't get it done. We were there 3 nights, with a baby, barely slept - the room itself was small and just really old. The fridge didn't work

We stayed here on a pre- Christmas family holiday for three nights in a junior suite. We were warmly welcomed by Mrs. Walther who came to ask about our day on each successive day. The receptionists were kindly and efficient, helping us arrange excursions and dinner reservations. A public transportation pass is included for each day you stay at the hotel, allowing you to go not just to nearby cable car stations up mountains, St. Moritz and its museums and shops but as far away as Bregaglia by bus. (A one ride from in front of the post office steps from the hotel. Recommended on a sunny day as you get terrific views of the lakes and valleys around Pontresina.) We can also recommend the one hour horse drawn ride in the snow departing from Samedan train station. The food in the more informal Italian restaurant is very good although we found portions were small. The fondue and raclette in the small Gondonlezza (old cable car) owned by the hotel is excellent. The breakfast buffet was also excellent in the variety of the offerings—unusual to find such high quality and variety in Europe in general. We found the waiters generally very welcoming and professional. However, the breakfast waiters clearly still needed to polish their service. The spa facilities at the hotel are terrific. And don’t pass up the opportunity to have a massage with Mauro as this osteopath/masseur has magical and healing hands. My family also stayed an extra night at the next door Steinbock Hotel under the same management. This is a simpler hotel with a different breakfast offering, but also allows access to the Walther Hotel’s sumptuous spa. They were just as delighted with the Steinbock. We would love to stay here again.
