Hotels near Potsdam, Schloss Babelsberg in Potsdam

Probably due to my IHG Ambassador/Platinum status I was upgraded to a spacious Junior Suite/Handicapped Room on the 7th floor which was just great. The only thing that puzzled me was, that the bed was not next to the bathroom, but right when you walked in next to the kitchenette, whereas the seating area and dinner table was next to the bathroom. Was there a mix-up when placing the furniture? ;-) Other than that, everything was great again: bedding, breakfast, location. Just a relaxing stay at an affordable price!

Unfortunately, the hotel has the best years behind it. Putting women seem not to be able to book and stretch. And lack of service is excused with lack of staff. After a short rainfall and then again beautiful weather, the outer area is no longer operational. (Say: no staff to wash chairs) However, the few staff are mostly very friendly and premature. Eat ... naja .... For this price category you can actually expect something else. Great market sauce and every day the same breakfast offer leaves the desire to a great start of the day pass quickly. Overall, it's very bad that you have the impression that this object is slowly going before the dogs. Finally .... Reserving a room via any online provider (on the call at the hotel you get the information that direct booking is not possible) leads to extreme prices. 240€ for a night, with a breakfast that really leaves to wishes, is finally only sad.

Der Hotelkomplex des „Vienna House by Wyndham Havelufer Potsdam” liegt nahe am Havelufer und lädt in relative ruhiger Umgebung zum Verweilen ein. Allerdings sind einige der Zimmer eher einfach eingerichtet und verströmen lediglich durch mehrere Holzbalken als Gestaltungselemente in den Zimmern etwas Flair. Als Ausgangspunkt für Unternehmungen in Potsdam ist das Hotel nahe der Straßenbahnlinie S91 und dem Bahnhof Potsdam Charlottenhof gut geeignet, für längere Aufenthalte würde ich es nicht empfehlen. Ich war im September 2023 zu Gast in dem Hotel und hatte Doppelzimmer 215 zugeteilt bekommen. Das Zimmer liegt im ehemals als Korn-Speicher genutzten und jetzt umfunktionierten Hoteltrakt mit Blick auf eine rückwärtige Grünfläche und die Außen-Terrasse eines italienischen Restaurants. Dieses wird offenbar recht gut besucht – entsprechender Unterhaltungslärm war bei gutem Wetter abends in unserem Zimmer bis Restaurantschließung (Mitternacht) bei geöffnetem Fenster zu hören. Das Zimmer hatte eine einfache funktionale Ausstattung mit einem kleinen Doppelbett (gute Matratzen), Wandlehne mit zwei Abstell-Brettern (als Nachttisch-Ersatz), Tisch, ein Stuhl, Telefon, Fernseher, Spiegelgestell mit acht Kleiderhaken und zwei Schubladen (als Schrankersatz…) und der Möglichkeit, einen kleinen Koffer abzustellen. Durch ein Rundbogenfenster hatte man einen Ausblick auf die Grünfläche hinter dem Hotel. Das Badezimmer hatte eher den Charakter eines Jugendherberg-Bades mit einem Waschbecken (wie man sie oft auf Raststätten-Toiletten findet) und einer Duschecke mit Plastikvorhang. Daneben beengt: die Toilette. Seifengel und Shampoo-Fläschchen standen bereit. Recht gut empfand ich das Büfett-Frühstück, dass im Erdgeschoss mit Blick auf den Grünbereich und Zugang zu einer Außenterrasse (mit Tischen und Stühlen) angerichtet war. An beiden Tagen meines Aufenthaltes herrschte gutes Wetter, so dass Frühstück auf der Terrasse im Freien möglich war. Hätte man die nichts nutzen können an den Tagen, wäre es im eigentlichen Restaurantbereich zu Wartezeiten gekommen, wenn das Hotel gut ausgelastet ist. Wartezeiten gab es auch an der nur einen (langsam arbeitenden) Kaffeemaschine. Fertiger Filterkaffee in kleinen Kannen stand bereit, die „langsame“ Kaffeemaschine bot auch Cappu, Latte und Co. Die Frühstückauswahl war gut, alles da: Verschiedene Wurstauflagen, Käse, Marmeladen, Obst, Joghurts, Eier-Variationen, Brot, Brötchen und Croissants, Cerealien, Säfte, Wasser und sogar Sekt. Zwei Fahrstühle bieten im Hotel gute Zugangsmöglichkeiten zu den Zimmern auf den vier Stockwerken. Außen gibt es im Freien eine Raucherecke mit Outdoor-Sofa. Die Straßenbahnhaltestelle S 91 ist nahe dem Einfahrtsbereich des Hotels an der Zeppelinstraße und schnell erreichbar. Bis zum Bahnhof Potsdam-Charlottenhof sind es 6 - 7 Gehminuten. The hotel is big, conference-type, and all kinds of facilities are very good. It is by the lake and can park for free on the nearby roadside. The hotel is a bit off, there is a Chinese restaurant in a few minutes drive, and I walked past ten to twenty minutes.

Pet- and tourist-unfriendly place. My latest experience very much resembled extortion. I was charged 100 euro for dog’s fur on the bedsheets and 150 euro for dog’s fur on the floor (the hotel representative had to put quite an effort into scraping some with her shoe) and an approx 0,5 mm brown-ish spot on the carpet which they claimed to be “blood” (considering that there was an approx 5 cm black stain on the carpet as of my checkin which hotel apparently didn’t see as something of an issue to me as a guest). I used to like this hotel (despite being placed on several occasions in rooms with obvious sewage issues), until I stayed there with my dog. I presented my dog at the reception at the checkin (that is the receptionist saw the dog). Paid 15 eur per day pet fee and proceeded to the room. No additional rules, policies or verbal requests were presented to me. My dog damaged a pouffe which I informed the hotel about at the checkout and happily paid whatever was asked of me (200 eur). In addition to that I was demanded to pay 100 eur for some fur on bedsheets and 150 eur for some fur on the floor as mentioned above. No oficial price list was presented. No explanation why 15 eur a day pet fee wasn’t covering washing blankets and vacuuming floor was provided, all my questions or logical arguments were ignored. The team of hotel representatives generously offered me a 50 eur discount on cleaning (which I didn’t ask for) only confirming that the amounts weren’t based on any actual price list, because if the hotel really suffered a loss of 250 eur why would they “gift” me 50 eur. I considered it to be an extortion and suggested to call the police. When I came back after 15 min the hotel still hadn’t called the police. As I had an urgent matter and had to leave, I paid the hotel whatever its staff demanded. I think what actually happened is the hotel staff had accidentally or recklessly placed us in a no-pet room (as there was a carpet, unlike in some other rooms. I was placed into that room after finding out the one I was initially given smelt of sewage - repeatedly happened before). And instead of charging their staff, they’ve charged me, so that they can do (if they actually do) for some deep cleaning after an animal to make it suitable again for people with allergies. Staff’s rudeness and ill attitude with me as a client weren’t in line with the hospitality filed’s even moderate standards. Most customers might find this hotel pleasant - which it is, until it is no longer.

The hotel is located on the main street of the city of Potsdam, and it is convenient to eat and shop nearby. Because it is not directly facing the street, it is very quiet at night. The shortage is that the hotel price is expensive, the room area is average, and the Wifi signal is not good.

Worst Service i have ever experienced. Hotel was pre paid through 3rd party booking service, upon arrival in the Self check in counter I had to pay for the full reservation again. Since it was late and we needed our room I chose to pay and deal with it later. When confronting the front desk I was met by 2 arrogant guys who couldn't care less to help with the problem and told me that they only had an invoice from the 3rd party booking. I showed them my mastercard transaction and said that they could check the Lobby camera to see that exact time on the check in day I would be in the lobby entering my card details on the Check in Ipad but no help was provided. Afterwards I contacted the Hotel through website with no response so I have just been left with paying twice for a hotel room. I am for sure never using Seminaris ever again.

We stayed two nights. The hotel is situated in a historic building next to the Brandenburger Tor in Potsdam and close to the pedestrian area. The structure dates back to 1736 and the hotel opened in 2010 after an extensive restoration. The location is very good, close to the pedestrian area and excellent public transport. The hotel has a few parking places in the courtyard, but most guests have to park in the public garage at Luisenplatz. As the hotel is an old structure with a number of extensions, access to some of the rooms is a pretty long walk. Although lifts have been installed, many guests still have to overcome some rather narrow and steep stairs. So getting things in and out was not easy and no help was offered. Our room was clean and quiet. It was spacious and with most of the amenities you would expect, such as comfortable beds and a safe, but no coffee machine. The bathroom was new and very good. Breakfast was good without being excellent, and restocking of some items a bit slow.
