It's quite satisfactory. The advantage is that it is located next to the famous Copacabana Beach. There is a swimming pool on the roof and you can see the scenery. The scenery outside the room is also very good, but the outside glass is dirty, it would be better to clean the scenery. Breakfast is also ok. The disadvantage is that the room decoration is relatively ordinary, and there is no bathtub. It has nothing to do with luxury, and there is no desk. The room is small, but it is clean. But the value for money is OK, because it doesn't charge inflated prices. Overall rating: 4. Whether you want to choose depends on whether you are after luxury or cost performance.

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times and honestly I believe it is the best hotel on Copacabana beach. Location is excellent with plenty of restaurants and shopping in close walking distance not to mention the beautiful beach with complimentary beach service for hotel guests. The rooftop pool and lounge offer stellar views of the beach and Corcovado. The breakfast buffet offers plenty of variety and another great view of the beach to enjoy a relaxing breakfast. My room was clean and comfortable. Really enjoy having the balcony. I found the staff to be welcoming and accommodating. Nice glass of champagne offered upon arrival as well as early check in which I truly appreciated after a long flight. Kudos to both Carlos and Jose who have repeatedly made me feel welcomed during all of my visits to PortoBay and provided excellent service. Overall, another great stay in Rio and hope to return again.

Being an ambassador level with Marriott tells you I travel a lot. We stayed at the JW for five days and loved the location, right in the middle of Copacabana beach. The hotel does need a little updating but the staff and lounge more than made up for it. The one person who really made our trip was Thais Silva from guest relations. She was on top of everything, if something was not right, she made it right. Not only did she go above and beyond but she really cared. Thanks again for making our stay in Rio a truly memorable one.

We were well received at the hotel, everything was ok. However some details to improve, we chose the Deluxe Double Bed Room with Balcony, the room had two single beds in which they were joined and a cover was placed, but it was uneven. Another detail is the size of the bathroom for bathing, very narrow due to the size of the room. In the description of the website it says that the hotel provides towels for the beach, but there are no towels available in the afternoon. Besides, we had a great stay.

The hotel is well located near the pharmacies, restaurants and markets. I was surprised at the time of check-in that the two rooms were next to each other and when they arrived in the room they were combined. I found our daughters great, though they were not young, but I like they were close to our room, and the rooms were spacious, with front box and fridge, flat-screen TV, split, comfortable beds, safe and bathroom with dryer. The noise was little, but we were on the 11th floor, and the cleaning was done every day, which impressed me. The breakfast is excellent, with varied fruits, water, juices, coffee, milk (ice and hot), bread, cakes, eggs, etc. I loved.

Many pluses staying here. Great location - around are restaurants, fast food (McDonald's, BK, Domino's, etc), shops, Super marts, Money changer and the Copacabana beach is a short walk away (5mins). Breakfast is really good with a wide selection. Staff were responsive, helpful and polite. Check in was easy and quick. The room I had did not have a view but no biggie. Mini fridge, TV, safe. Room is small but manageable. Hotel entrance is just at the main road, easy for Uber/taxi pick up and loading of luggage. Security is good - there's always someone present at the main door. Will definitely stay again if I return to Rio.

Rooms are clean. Gym is okay for a hotel. Had an extremely bizarre exchange during check out. My wife's parents and brother stayed 3 nights, and paid for parking when they arrived. My wife and I stayed 4 nights. The hotel staff insisted we had to pay for 4 nights of parking because we didn't notify them we were finished with the spot. They also seemed to allege that her father might not have paid because he parked in the garage when he first arrived, and then went inside to pay. I feel that is par for the course because you obviously cannot leave your car before you park it. Lol. The strangest part was they then charged us for 6 bottles of water, and 3 cans of beer. It's entirely possible we drank 6 bottles, so we didn't argue. But we know for a fact we only drank 1 of the 2 beers included in the fridge. They were absolutely adamant that we had the 3 beers. If they are going to be so confident in their accounting they need to include a list of what is in a fully stocked refrigerator for guests to audit when they arrive. Should you choose to stay here (and I would recommend you don't because Ipanema is a much safer feeling area, likely with less aggressive hotel staff), take a picture of the contents of the refrigerator when you arrive and/or write down anything you take from there.

One of the worst hostel rooms I've ever seen. Smelt of damp, walls and mattress were absolutely filthy. Sheets were paper thin and stained. The room I was provided with had 0 space whatsoever. As soon as I checked in and saw the state of the room I asked to be moved to a different room. I was happy to pay whatever price difference there was but was told no other room was available for the duration of my stay. I booked a private room that was available for a few days and requested a refund of the remaining balance. I was told someone would contact me to discuss this. I waited a week and received 0 calls or emails. I called and emailed multiple times, and after it was clear I wouldn't be receiving any response I resigned myself to this review. The staff are friendly enough but I wouldn't rebook this hostel again if it was the only option in rio. The bonus was the ants everywhere in the private room and the lack of courtesy to get back to me on my partial refund request.
