This is an ideal place to stay when visiting Rothenburg. Parking is at a premium in this city and Hotel Alter Ritter has plentiful free parking, and is just a pleasant 5 minute walk to one of Rothenburg's famous city gates that lead into the walled city. Peter and Maria have converted this former school into a great little hotel. We have stayed her numerous times in different rooms, which are basic but spotlessly clean and with en suite showers. The beds are really comfortable and we enjoyed great nights sleep. The breakfast room is newly renovated, and breakfast is great. A choice of fruit juices, cereals, breads, meats, cheeses, jams and fruit. Boiled eggs are also available. The coffee was great, and a selection of teas are also on offer. If you are looking for a budget hotel in Rothenburg, do not go past the Alter Ritter. You will not be disappointed.

This hotel exceeded my expectations - it was super clean, the rooms were spacious with an ensuite bathroom, and the staff were very friendly. The city centre is about a 10-15 minute walk away, and there are two big supermarkets just down the street. They offer a breakfast and there is a Hungarian restaurant attached so you will never go hungry. My only complaint was that I couldn't leave my luggage before check in or after check out, so I had to hang around the nearby supermarket until my train left. Other than that I really enjoyed my stay - I just wish I would have stayed there longer!
