We opted to stay in town at a lovely hotel and come to the estancia for the all day experience. It was a 6,000 peso 15 minute taxi ride from downtown Areco. We got there at 11 am and were greeted by Pat. She took us around and showed us the lay of the land. We had our two empanadas with water ( we could have had alcohol, soda, tea or coffee). We then got on the horses for a pleasant ride around the property. It was not strenuous at all. We occasionally broke into a trot. You may store your gear in lockers if desired. By the time we got back from the ride, the day trippers had begun to arrive. We rested on lounge chairs and walked the grounds while the new arrivals rode horses or the carriages. I peeked in the “kitchen” and was welcomed in to see what meat we were going to be served. They also have a nice garden with veggies, spices and flowers. Next up was the gaucho show-WOW! Lots of fun riding to watch by some very experienced young men. THEN came the “meatathon” - we counted 9 different ones. They also served 3 different salads, water, wine or soft drinks. Vegetarians were satisfied with their choices as well. For dessert, one gets a choice of ice cream or pastry. There is music, singing and dancing with audience participation encouraged. These festivities ended around 4 pm and then the day trippers cleared out. You may swim, go for a bike ride or take a nap. I think I would have asked the cab driver to come at 4:30 or 5 unless you wanted to hang by the pool. We no lived it and were VERY glad we were staying in Areco!
