We had planned to stay at Lonely Beach for four nights. It was so bad we left after two. The rainy season did not help, and the owner cannot be blamed for the weather. But there are many other points on which he did not deliver. Yes there is no A/C, no running water and no electricity. We knew all that and were prepared for it. What we were not prepared for were the crawling animals in our bungalow. A bat stayed in the room, there was animal feces on the mosquito net, a rat, giant geckos in the bathroom. The gecko ate my solid soap and my toothbrush, never leave anything in the bathroom! The place is dirty and feels abandoned: snorkelling masks had mould on them, some common areas are broken down and not getting repaired (barbecue, snorkelling station, outside bar). Toilets had not been cleaned before, bed sheets were stained. There is only one bowl for cleaning, showering and flushing the toilets. It is never changed or cleaned when guests leave. The water supply was dirty with cockroaches and frogs in it. When confronted with all this nonsense, the owner would just laugh at us, saying we come from the city. Yet he lives with an army of dogs, so obviously there are no animals in his own bungalow. There is a difference between no electricity and sharing a disgusting room with animals. The place is remote and expensive to go to ($20 boat + moto taxi per person), expensive to stay in (the only food option is the restaurant of the hotel) and neither worth the hassle nor the price. A few positives: food is on the pricey side but good; the beach is beautiful and indeed, lonely.
