Aside from the living quarters, the place has the atmosphere of an old-fashioned Japanese inn, which I think would be great for people who like traditional Japanese inns. There are some minor inconveniences, such as the fact that you can only use the hot springs from 6am to 11pm, and that the toilets and washrooms are all shared, but if you can tolerate those, I think it's a good option.

I chose a second-floor room with a window, which had a great view! The room was clean and tidy! It wasn't far from a convenience store either! It was pretty good for one person!

It's warm and the room is clean! The owner is also kind!! It's a little inconvenient that there's no bathroom in the room, but it's good enough for a small group.

The room was cool, bug-free, and the hot springs were great. The water is good. It was clean, and the service provided was good. The owner is friendly. Basic amenities such as toothbrushes, razors, hair ties, cotton pads, and cotton swabs were provided, and the towels were large, which was nice. The location is also nice.

Ureshino has many accommodations that are somewhat expensive for solo travelers. That's why I chose Kotobukiya among the cheap ryokans with hot springs. I thought it would be inconvenient because the room size is just right for one person and the bathroom is shared, but it was clean and I was able to use it without waiting. Also, the water in the hot spring on the first floor was really good. The hot spring is small enough for three adults to stretch their legs, but it wasn't crowded at all because there weren't many people. Maybe because it's close to the Sea Bolt Bath, the water was smoother and softer than the hot spring at the hotel I stayed at in September 2024. I want to make a reservation again next time.

We had a very bad experience at this ryokan. We had booked a room with a river view for 2 nights. They gave us the wrong room, much smaller and without a view. I had to negotiate for 30 minutes with the manager on the phone to get her to give us the room we had booked for our second night. We received no compensation from the establishment for the inconvenience. We were very disappointed because this place is truly unworthy of Japanese standards. The hotel has no charm, the rooms have no decoration and no soul, it's a shame for the price you pay. In addition, there are no showers!! There are only showers in the public onsen, which is forbidden to people with tattoos... so if you have tattoos or are not comfortable with showering naked in front of everyone, you simply cannot wash! The river view room is still nice, but only because of the view. They provide a 2L bottle of water and there is no water dispenser. Access to the private "small onsen" costs 1500 yen but you can barely sit in it for two people because it is so small. It is a rip-off. We were expecting a real Japanese experience in the pretty little town of Ureshino but that was not the case at all.

The room looked clean inside and out, but it was quite dusty, especially noticeable in sunlight, which is unusual in Japan. I suspect they don't vacuum. For the price, it's okay for a simple one-night stay if you don't mind. The elderly lady who hosts guests has clear and standard SOP procedures and is adept at using a translator – thumbs up! The location is fantastic.

The three of us stayed in a 6 tatami room, and it was a perfect place to stay. All amenities were provided, the building was nice and clean, and best of all, it was cheap to be able to enjoy the hot spring water straight from the source. It was a really nice place to stay.
