Whale Island Resort

For those who seek a disconnect from their daily hectic lives; this is the place to be! A beautiful combination of romantic bamboo housing, excellent service oriented staff, good food, palmtrees, your own island, lots of sunshine and various activities like snorkeling if you wish ... What else do you need?

In one word: paradise!! We stayed 4 nights at Whale Island and enjoyed every second of it. The resort is amazing. It is right at the beach. No more than 15 steps from our bed to the ocean. And especially in the morning it is very nice snorkling right at the resort. Also the snorkling trips organized by the resort are very cool. We saw much beautiful coral and fish. It is a shame that there is also plastic in the ocean and on the banks of the island though. But traveling Vietnam for 3 weeks and you’ll see it everywhere. It is a nationwide issue and resort like Whale Island, with more eye for the environment are part of the solution we’d say. The people of the resort spent a lot of time picking up trash and taking care of the coral and ocean at their doorstep. Besides all the swimming and snorkling, the food is very tasty as well. The staff is friendly and the bungalows can’t give more beach-vibe than this. Truly a paradise and big highlight for us in our visit to Vietnam.

This is a beautiful beach, bar and restaurant on a small island a short ferry journey away from the mainland. It is in the middle of a busy fishing area, so beyond the island there are boats and off-shore fish farms but the island itself and the area cut off by buoys is quiet. We had a fantastic time. The water was warm, the snorkelling fun, food was great and the staff were brilliant; helpful and friendly. There was no air-conditioning in the rooms which made them fairly warm at night but there were fans and overall we had a wonderful time.

I spent three nights at Whale Island Resort, I had had three excursions planned: the island hike, kayaking, and snorkeling. The snorkeling site was atrocious. Murky, utterly devoid of coral, sp**** marine life, and trash on the bottom. While kayaking, I spotted tons of trash strewn about the shore. The hike had less trash but I overlooked that as there are two spots with spectacular views. This resort claims to be eco-friendly but when I mentioned the Island’s filth to the staff, they seemed uninterested in solving the problem. The swimming is acceptable but don’t expect turquoise water. The food is excellent as is the bar, serving any cocktail or mocktail you can dream up. Very relaxing, but only good for a two night stay.

Very nice place! Quiet and beautiful nature including gekko’s. The beach houses are clean, sometimes toilet will not flush. We had wonderful food and nice massage. The staff is very helpful and kind.

It's a beautiful place to relax, to enjoy nature, hiking around the island on small paths. In Mangrove bay you can watch birds. Beautiful birds will accompany on your way. Service and food are exzellent. You should know that you habe to buy all beverages from the bar. In your room you find every day half liter of water and a water cooker for making tea.

Whale Island is an undeniably beautiful location. The clear, still sea and views are idyllic. However, on our visit in August we weren’t able to really enjoy the island for a few reasons: the weather was really hot and the eco-bungalows only have fans rather than AC so it was very difficult to sleep; a rat came through the bungalow into one of our bathrooms when one of us was taking a shower; one of us became ill. We say this as people who have travelled very extensively to some remote/basic places. We understand that the resort has an eco mission but it’s just worth thinking about what level of relaxation you’re looking for. If you wanted a ‘back to nature’ experience in a beautiful place and were interested in diving, it might be great. So, we ended up leaving early (very unusual indeed for us). To be fair, the management were very helpful with a partial refund and making arrangements for onward travel: many thanks. There are some positives… There is a coral garden in the sea right at the resort so you can just snorkel off the beach and see a good range of fish. There is a beach hut with free towels and various bits of kit (fins, snorkels, catamaran, etc.) available to rent at sensible prices. The resort runs its own snorkel trips at reasonable prices and Rainbow Divers offer scuba and snorkelling trips. The nearest airport is Tuy Hoa and we would recommend Tuy Hoa as a good resort town for a visit.

Great secluded island. Very serene relaxing atmosphere. You can sit in a shade, swim, and just do nothing. Very nice snorkel, tropical fish was beautiful. My husband and I stayed for 2 days, food was very simple but edible. Accommodations very simple, but charming. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Down side, it takes couple of hours to get there.
