Experience Minority Cultures in Zhaoxing

Zhaoxing is the perfect village to base yourself in for a few nights if you want to experience the Dong minority groups of Guizhou. Nestled between rice terraces, this village is filled with beautiful traditional Dong style architecture. You can spend a few days wandering the village itself as well as hiking to remote villages in the rice terraces. It is also a good place to base yourself whilst you explore the surrounding villages of Basha and Huanggang. Basha is the only village in China where the locals are still allowed hunting rifles as it is imbedded in their culture. It’s touristy, but worth a few hours of exploring. Huanggang is the opposite. Not touristy at all and a beautiful village to meander through for a few hours. To get there: take a 1.5 hour bullet train from Guiyang to Congjiang. Outside the station will be a bus stop with many buses travelling the 20 minute journey to Zhaoxing.
