Built in the 17th century, it is the oldest surviving Dutch building in Southeast Asia. It has been the seat of government agencies for more than 300 years and was not changed to the Malacca Museum until 1980. The Dutch-style Jalan ginseng red house has thick red brick walls, heavy hardwood doors and a wide stone level in front of the door. The museum retains historical relics from various periods in Malacca, including ancient Dutch weapons, Portuguese costumes since the 16th century, Malay wedding costumes, gold, silver, jewellery and handicrafts, and pictures of various ancient vessels moored in the port of Malacca. . There are also rare ancient coins and stamps in the museum.
