Panevėžys: Lithuania’s Quiet Heart of Culture and Charm

This is the fifth-largest city in Lithuania, famous for the Juozo Miltinis Drama Theatre – one of the country’s most respected stages – and for its legendary Puppet Wagon Theatre, which has been delighting audiences since 1940. The city also boasts the narrowest street in Lithuania, aptly called “Narrow Street” (Siauroji gatvė), just 1.3 meters wide in places, and the beautiful Senvagė park with its glowing musical fountain that dances to light and sound every summer evening. Despite its modest size, Panevėžys has produced an astonishing number of Lithuanian artists, writers, and actors, earning it the unofficial nickname “the cultural capital of Aukštaitija.”
