The Marriott Resort in Shenzhen is perfect for a family vacation with kids

Located in Dapeng New District, there aren't many hotel options, and Marriott is a popular choice. 🚗 It's quite far from downtown and the airport—about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Bao'an Airport. It's suitable for a weekend getaway if you're from within the province, but travelers from other cities should plan extra time if combining it with urban sightseeing. 🌴 The resort is large, with standard beach vacation facilities, but the overall design isn't particularly striking or impressive. The beach has many broken shells and coarse sand—if you want a better beach experience, resorts in Sanya or Southeast Asia are recommended. 🤹‍♀️ Plenty of kid-friendly activities: crafts, go-karts, a petting zoo, etc. In the evening, the lobby bar features live violin performances and singers. 🧖‍♀️ The spa’s one-hour aromatherapy massage is highly recommended—you can customize your blend using doTERRA essential oils. I ended up taking a long nap during mine 🥱 🍴 The dining options are decent since there aren’t many nearby restaurants or commercial areas. The Chinese restaurant on the third floor serves flavorful wok-fried dishes in generous portions. The made-to-order rice noodle rolls at the all-day dining restaurant on the first floor are a must-try. The bakery’s egg yolk pastries come in several tasty flavors, but their bread (loaded with artificial cream) is a pass 😓 ❌ Downsides: - Lower-floor rooms have no view—opt for a sea-view room on the 5th floor or higher. - The outdoor pool’s underwater lighting at night is terrible—swimming in pitch darkness feels like navigating the treacherous Amazon River. - The remote location means limited nearby attractions and dining options. A friend ended up eating KFC for three days straight 😂 - Poor soundproofing—you can hear kids playing and even conversations from next door. - Weekends get crowded and chaotic, mostly with families. ✅ In short: - Great if you want a beach getaway with kids and don’t mind the location. - Not ideal if you seek a quiet retreat or have high expectations for hotel design.
