Discovering Tashkent Madrasa

Madrasa Barak Khan is a religious school located in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was built in the 16th century by Nauruz Ahmad Khan, the then-governor of Tashkent and a grandson of Mirzo Ulugbek. The name “Barak-Khan” means “fortunate ruler” and was given to Nauruz Ahmad Khan because of his successful reign. The building was completed in 1532 and was damaged by an earthquake in 1868, but was later restored. The madrasa is part of the Hazrati Imam complex in Tashkent and has been used as the office of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Central Asia since 2007. The building has a blue dome and a series of octagonal decorations inside. It is also home to several mausoleums, one of which is dedicated to Suyundzh-Khan #dreamvoyage
