Guoqing Temple

Beyond the mountains and rivers, Mount Tiantai has always been renowned for being the 'source of Buddhist doctrine and the abode of divine landscapes' both domestically and internationally. Hidden deep within the mountains and surrounded by lotus ponds, Guoqing Temple is a thousand-year-old Buddhist land, and it was also a frequent destination for the ancient monk Hanshan during his lifetime. 'The temple prospers, and the nation becomes pure,' is the grand aspiration held by Guoqing Temple. This ancient temple from the Sui Dynasty was founded by the eminent monk Zhiyue. Jianzhen, who traveled to the east, visited here, as did high monks from India, Hanshan, Shide, and even the legendary Ji Gong was often in residence. Moreover, the prototype of Kukai in the 'Legend of the Demon Cat' once settled here, incidentally encountering the magnificent and splendid civilization of the Tang Dynasty. It is difficult to summarize the realm of Guoqing Temple in a single word; it is profound yet not burdensome, simple yet not lacking in richness, and despite its vicissitudes, it still carries an air of dignity.
