Off to the Island of Atauro!

Spent a full day on the island of Atauro, about an hour away by speedboat from Dili. It was an easy journey; the waters were not choppy, and the weather was just perfect. I awestruck when we were about to disembark at Beloi Beach, because the water was crystal clear! Atauro’s Beloi Beach was a hive of activity. The islanders were going about their daily lives, unbothered by the occasional curious tourists. Lunch was a massive feast at the warung, where everything on the table was either organically grown in their own backyard or caught fresh from the sea that day and cooked outdoors in open fires. The seaweed was a personal favourite. We hitched a ride with the islanders to the highest point of Atauro to take in the views and snap a few pictures for posterity. The boat ride back to Dili was a pleasant hour of watching the sun set and the sky bathe in various shades of dusk before going completely dark.
