The Dongxi Alley, adjacent to the Jingjiang Princes' City, is indeed a treasured place known as 'Azure Dragon and White Tiger'!
Dongxi Alley, located on the east side of Zhengyang Gate (Duanli Gate) of Guilin's Jingjiang Princes' City, enjoys the reputation of being a treasured land of 'Azure Dragon and White Tiger'. The original site of the East Alley was the location of ancestral temples, while the West Alley was where the Altar of the Earth and Grain was situated, that is, 'left ancestral temple and right earth altar'.
With the transformation of the Jingjiang Princes' Mansion into a provincial examination hall, the area around the hall became a place for scholars from all over to prepare for their exams, with inns and bookshops densely packed. Dongxi Alley also became a feng shui treasured land where scholars and merchants gathered, officials and dignitaries settled, and the birthplace of old and distinguished brands, witnessing nearly a thousand years of Guilin's development.
In old times, Guilin's East Alley had four major scholarly families: Wei, Xie, Cen, and Long. The Long family cultivated two 'brother Hanlin' in the Qing Dynasty, Long Chaoyan and Long Chaoyi, as well as the only female bhikkhuni 'Shi Kuanneng' who had relics after nirvana.
The Xie and Geng family lived in Lanjing Alley all along. He was arranged to be the confidential secretary of Bai Chongxi, and his father Xie Shunci was a famous calligrapher in Guilin.
No. 7 East Alley was the former residence of Ma Qibang. It is a small European-style building with a podocarpus in the inner courtyard. Ma Qibang was a Hui Muslim, once served as the head of the police department, and was a capable assistant to Bai Chongxi.
The residence of Cen Chunxuan, that is, the site of the Cen family ancestral temple, is superimposed on the site of the Ming Dynasty Jingjiang Princes' ancestral temple. Cen Chunxuan was the governor of Guangdong and Guangxi in the late Qing Dynasty, and together with his father Cen Yuying and his uncle Cen Yubao, they were known as 'three governors in one family'.
Cen Chunxuan founded Shanxi University Hall, was fearless of the powerful, severely punished corrupt officials, and was promoted by the south as the commander-in-chief of the army against Yuan Shikai, with the saying 'Yuan in the north, Cen in the south'.
In the late Qing officialdom, there were 'three butchers': Zhang Zhidong was known as 'butcher of wealth', loved 'burning money', and spent lavishly; Yuan Shikai was known as 'butcher of people', fond of killing, and slaughtered like hemp; Cen Chunxuan was the 'butcher of officials', despised violence, and was anti-corruption.
The Champion Pavilion, originally called 'Houbofang', was owned by Hu Xuande, who was responsible for the supervision of banknote production. Chen Jichang stayed here before participating in the Guangxi provincial examination, and later successively won 'three top honors', hence the Champion Pavilion got its name.
Renshou Alley was a settlement for Jiangxi merchants, with the Renshou Palace, Renshou Well, and Jianchang Guild Hall built during the Qianlong period, known as the Jiangxi Guild Hall.
The Guangdong Guild Hall has a wok-ear-shaped mountain wall, with a three-bay three-door brick facade. The round arched doors on both sides are inscribed with the seal script 'Huai De' and 'He Xie'.

⚠️Guilin Pitfall Guide
‼️Don't take the illegal taxis near the airport and stations.
‼️Don't trust various photo services in scenic areas, they charge money and are especially expensive.
‼️Don't easily trust the local women on the streets, they lack formal guarantees and are particularly deceitful.
💖It is recommended to plan a 4-5 day trip, as it's not easy to get out and about. Try to visit all the essential spots without rushing and take the time to relax properly.
Listen to my advice, don't come to Guilin on a rainy day, I'm afraid you won't want to leave
March in Guilin, with its misty rain, is also a nice choice for a city walk, tranquil and peaceful.
Every city, I believe, has a historic street that is a must-visit.
Nanning has 'Sanjie Liangxiang', Guangzhou has 'Yongqing Fang', 'Beijing Road', 'Shangxiajiu', and Guilin has 'East-West Alley'.
🌟 Guilin East-West Alley
Located in front of the Zhengyang Gate of Jingjiang Prince City
Divided into 'Zhengyang East Alley' and 'Zhengyang West Alley', these are streets that date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
In March, the spring rain in Guilin is as precious as oil, and although the commercial atmosphere of East-West Alley is not as bustling as during the summer vacation, the fewer people make it ideal for daydreaming, taking photos, and cleansing the soul.
Here you can find a cultural street, museums, a cathedral, and occasionally a couple of burger and coffee shops. The romance of a rainy day can only be felt by stepping inside and experiencing the beauty of slow living.
Walking into East-West Alley on a rainy day, the grey and white buildings present a serene beauty, unique in its own right.
I really like the coolness after the rain, it has a faint sense of fate, but isn't such tranquility also a kind of strength?
Baozi, if you come to Guilin, don't miss the ancient city walls and East-West Alley here.

🌳Twelve Hours Bookstore
There is a Twelve Hours Bookstore in the East-West Alley. I found out that it is an open aisle with bookshelves on both sides for free reading. I went to see that there were not many books, and no one maintained it, so I don't recommend friends to go there specifically for check-in.

Guilin: The grand and atmospheric Xiaoyao Tower, and the Champion Corridor
In Guilin, from Xiaoyao Tower to East-West Lane, there is a Champion Corridor with Chinese traditional architectural features. The Champion Corridor is more than 60 meters long, displaying the ancient imperial examination culture and examination scenes, and focuses on introducing the eight champions from Guilin who succeeded in the imperial examination system that lasted for 1300 years.
The old streets of every city have a story behind a historical style. Located in front of Zhengyang Gate of Jingjiang Wangcheng Scenic Spot in Guilin City, there is a historical street called East Lane, also known as Zhengyang East. Lane" and "Zhengyang West Lane". It can be said that it is the place where Guilin has the most architectural style in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Ming Dynasty. It also witnesses the rise and fall of history. In the past few years, in order to better preserve these historical and cultural characteristics, it is necessary to rebuild these ancient buildings. We are looking at what it is, so don't think it is a man-made attraction.
When traveling to Guilin, the first stop of many tourists is not the beautiful scenery of Tiancheng, but to find the authentic food of Guilin in the alley. There are more than four in Guilin, one of which is the rice noodle shop. There are many old rice noodle shops lined up in the streets in Guilin. In fact, not only the rice noodles, but also the street snacks can make everyone come to Guilin. Visitors are lingering, but to say snacks, then Guilin is the most recommended thing is the East and West Lane.
East-West Lane is close to Jingjiang Wangfu and Xiaoyao Building. It is the only historical street left by the Ming and Qing Dynasties of Guilin. It witnessed the rise and fall of Guilin City in the nearly 1400 years since the founding of Wude in the Tang Dynasty.
East-West Lane was very popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. At the peak, there was the reputation of Qinglong White Tiger. It is best for the day and night to come after the turn of the scenic spot. Once you walk into the east and west lanes, you can feel the warm fireworks here. Here are the shops, strolling one by one, even eating and buying as if let us Going back to the age of childhood.
The alley of the east and west lanes combines traditional culture with characteristic architecture. Under the night, the blue brick and gray tile red lanterns, the creative shops of various colors are everywhere, the hand-brocade of the old craftsmen, the aroma of peppers floating in the hall, as if Touched the context of this city, and placed itself in the commercial prosperity of ancient times.
Osmanthus tofu flower, this is a very good snack. Some netizens often ask whether the tofu flower should be sweet or salty, and the justice in the north and the south is still quite large. As a northeastern man who grew up with soy sauce and sprinkled with chopped green onion and parsley, this bowl of sweet tofu would not be rejected. It can be seen that sweetness and saltiness are not the key. The key is that the ancient craftsmanship will make any diners convinced.
I recommend a super net red shop for everyone, the mountain does not smell the buns shop. There is a dog in the north, and there is a reputation in the south. When I was in Guilin, I asked President Putin to eat the buns here. It is said that President Putin also received great praise.
Traditional spicy fish feet are also very good, the peppers vary from place to place, the weather temperature is different, there are still many differences in the tastes made, so be sure to eat a few.
Every net city in Hong Kong will have a food street. The most famous in Guilin is the East and West Lanes. Not only do locals like it, but locals like it too. Especially after the evening, it is really crowded with people.
There is an antique building in the alley, which is a small specialty shop. It was only after I became deeply aware that Guilin was originally a city with osmanthus fragrance.
The East-West Lane is the only historical street left by the Ming and Qing Dynasties in Guilin. With the aerial camera, you can see that the space is well planned. The road is flat, extending in all directions, stacked in a flying wall, gray and white, full of lines. As the scenic spot of Guilin's ancient historical features, it includes Guilin traditional streets and alleys such as Zhengyang Street East Lane, Jiangnan Lane and Lanjing Lane. Does such a building feel that obsessive-compulsive disorder has been cured? The red lanterns illuminate the quaint street color, and many merchants open the door to welcome guests. The tourists from all directions are endless, adding a lot of commercial atmosphere to the ancient street and it is also full of vitality. While holding the younger brother to walk, take out the mobile phone and check the information to tell the younger brother about history. "East and West Lanes flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. They once had the reputation of "Qinglong White Tiger" treasure land. Here, not only the Hongru trade and business gatherings..." The place featuring "Shijing Street, Celebrity Mansion", There is always a folk culture street. As soon as the younger brother saw the colorful ornaments in it, I had to pull it in and watch it. The colorful gadgets were the most attractive to the children. The stone road under the foot is smooth and bright, and the mottled ancient wall bricks have a few green colors. At the same time, the east and west lanes are also the birthplaces of many old brands with local characteristics of Guilin, such as "Yi Yi Xuan" rice noodles; "Yong Yongfa" dyeing cloth; "Cao Baoyuan" cream Dan Pang San; "Xiongtonghe" pharmacy; "Jufengtai" Business; "Yusin" business; "Huang Changdian" writing brush; "Hongqinglong" moon cake and so on.
