#Ngong Ping Shan Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)

Mounting a Ping
You see this place in almost every HK promo video and is the very first attraction you come across when landing in HK international. Had no issues with purchasing tickets on the day and had a cabin to ourselves on the way up (Coming down was shared). The views from the cabin were spectacular and the photos didn't do it justice. The Ngong Ping village itself is filled with cafes and shops but at tourist prices. Tian Tan Buddha stairs aren't as challenging as they may seem and are also accessible inside which I was unaware of prior to visiting. Po Lin Monastery Temple caps the entire experience with good religious architecture. The Park Trails itself is quite vast and I would expect one to two days worth of hiking to cover most of it.

Touristy village atop a plateau in Hong Kong

Ngong Ping village on Lantau Island is a village designed to become a shopping and dining place, with the Big Buddha as an attraction to visit. As it is located on higher ground, taking the cable car from Tung Chung MTR is the way to get here. An alternative yet more difficult way of getting here, is to hike up Lantau Peak, the second highest mountain in Hong Kong, and then descend to Ngong Ping Village, entering where the big Buddha is. Half a day should be allocated to explore this place. There are shops that sell souvenirs, tea and snacks. The monastery also sells vegetarian meals as a food option.
