Very nice Japanese style room overlooking the river and the tree filled riverbank hill. It was very private. Breakfast and dinner was served at the table and was excellent. Much variety of fish, chicken, pork, tofu, and vegetables. The overall atmosphere was very elegant and relaxed. The ryokan is located right on one of the bus stops for easy access from the train station. It is a short 10 minute walk to the main area of town. There are several onsen pools. Some rotate between men and women at different hours. Very clean with good amenities. Overall a very memorable stay.

Stayed at Comfort Hotel Maebashi for a short trip. The room was warm and cozy, though a bit small — similar to most hotels in Japan. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the toilet felt more spacious compared to other hotels. Overall, a comfortable stay with everything you need. Would definitely consider staying here again!

The hotel facilities are a bit old, but the location is excellent. The front desk even has staff who speak Chinese, and there's a great selection of free yukata to choose from right next to the front desk. Both breakfast and dinner are buffet-style, and the restaurant offers a rich variety of food, including all-you-can-drink draft beer.

The room is clean, tidy, comfortable, spacious, bright and sanitary. It is very comfortable to live in. The breakfast and dinner are rich and delicious. I arrived early and the front desk arranged for us to check in in advance. The hotel's gold and silver soup is great and it is very comfortable to soak in!

1 Since it is independent of the room, I didn't mind the sound of the next room, and the parking lot was in front of me, so I was able to leave immediately for sightseeing and it was very convenient. I will use it again.

I booked the highly-rated Bouun Ryokan three months in advance, supposedly in business for 462 years! The interior decor and tatami rooms were surprisingly new. The room service, the dining environment for dinner, and the exquisite Kaiseki cuisine were all incredibly impressive. We stayed for two nights, with breakfast and dinner included. The hotel uses only the finest Japanese ingredients, and not a single dish or dessert was repeated. I especially want to commend the Japanese gentleman who picked us up and dropped us off at the bus station, and the young lady who helped us with our luggage on check-in day, January 5th. Both were exceptionally thoughtful. However, I must criticize a young male receptionist at the front desk – fair-skinned, round-faced, and wearing glasses. He didn't seem Japanese and was very impatient with guests. A high-end hotel like this shouldn't have such staff; it really detracts from the experience! Nevertheless, this won't stop me from staying here again on my next visit to Kusatsu.

The Dormy Inn brand is guaranteed. With a room rate of less than $500, you can enjoy a bath, soba noodles and popsicles in the evening, and the room is also large, with enough space for three large suitcases. It is very worthwhile.

A very good hotel with a free shuttle bus to Yubata, the train station, and the ski resort. The hotel is large and has comprehensive recreational facilities, including bowling, karaoke, and billiards. The receptionist speaks excellent English, making communication completely seamless. It's a long walk from the reception to the rooms, but you'll pass a large gift shop with prices the same as the gift shop next to Yubata, and you can even get tax-free shopping. There are also many art exhibitions in the hallways. The rooms are spacious, with two beds and one tatami room, and underfloor heating. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi. The open-air bath in the large public bath is very comfortable, allowing you to enjoy the snow while soaking in the hot spring. The hot spring water is piped from Yubata Genyu, and the temperature is quite high. The hotel's most unique feature is its series of walking/hiking activities, with three sessions in total. I participated in the 7:00 AM forest hike with a professional guide. The hotel provides rain boots, but I recommend wearing thick socks as the rain boots are quite thin. We will walk into the forest and reach the ski resort. We will hike in the snow for about an hour. It will be cold, so be sure to dress warmly.

It was a short walk away from the Minakami Onsen bus stop and the room was clean. Loved the private onset overlooking the river as well. We didn't have breakfast there as the price was a little steep for us (~27 SGD) but there's a nearby bakery and other F&B, so food was not an issue. They provide PJs and a cardigan to put over as well. Staff was nice too.

Amazing
JJoeTmStayed for 2 nights in early Dec 2024. Booked the mountain view twin room with cypress bath which comes with both dinner and breakfast. The ryokan styled hotel is located diagonally opposite from the shibukawa bus stop and about 5 mins walk (turn right from the hotel) to the Ikaho stone steps around the mid section of the steps. The hotel is old ryokan style but well maintained and does not see much wear and tear. The lobby which is on the 3rd floor (ground level) is big. No shoes allowed in the hotel, guests have to deposit their shoes at the entrance. Staff were all friendly and polite though not all can speak well in English. They do go much more to make you feel at home. Yutaka is provided at the lobby. My room which is located on the 4th floor corner is considered big. Old styled ryokan kind of design but with western bed. Though the room is laid with tatami on the floor but can still hear people walking if they area heavy or run. Corridor noise does filter in as well but muffled. Unblocked view of the mountain as the hotel sits on an elevated hill. I would recommend to stay with mountain view. The cypress bath can fit 2 person but takes a while to fill, I rather go to the public onsen. Besides the usual amenities, they even provide face wash, face moisturiser, etc in the room. Safe box is provided in the room as well. Wifi seems weak. No place in the bathroom however to hang your clothes or towel. There is an indoor onsen on the first floor and an outdoor one on the 8th floor. The onsen are gender separated. They rotate the male and female onsen on the first floor though both has the same look and facilities. The onsen on the 8th floor has a nice view of the city but no shower facilities. There is a massage chair on the first floor as well. Breakfast and dinner are served on the 2nd floor. I would not say that this is the best, but definitely delicious and sufficient. Check in at 3 pm and check out at 10am which I find a bit too early. Hope they can consider to extend. Overall I would recommend this place to stay if you are coming to ikaho.

SSettasilp PoonbumphenPros: + Stunning outdoor onsen: The outdoor bath is the highlight. The natural scenery is beautiful, especially with the surrounding mountains and snow. + Tourist-friendly onsen: The resort provides special underwear so guests can comfortably enjoy the onsen without needing to be fully nude, which makes it much more accessible for international visitors. + Excellent kaiseki dinner: The traditional multi-course meal is well-prepared and delicious. Definitely one of the highlights of the stay. + Great atmosphere: The entire setting feels very authentic and relaxing, especially in winter. + Service meets expectations: Staff are professional and the hospitality is solid throughout the stay. Cons: - Outdoor bath is quite far from the main building: You need to walk through a snowy path wearing the traditional yukata, which can feel very cold and slightly inconvenient. - TV lacks modern app support: The in-room TV does not support apps like Netflix or other streaming services. - Tight schedule for check-in and check-out: The first shuttle bus arrives at the resort around 2:00 PM, leaving only a few hours before dinner at 5:45 PM. After dinner you can enjoy the onsen again until midnight, and it reopens at 5:00 AM. However, breakfast starts at 7:00 AM, and guests must check out by 9:00 AM to catch the 9:15 AM bus. This makes the morning feel rushed and limits the time you can spend enjoying the onsen. The rest of your day might be feeling tired. Despite a few inconveniences - mainly the walking distance to the outdoor bath and the tight check-out schedule. Takaragawa Onsen is still a highly enjoyable experience. The stunning outdoor, beautiful scenery, and great kaiseki dinner make it a memorable stay. If you're visiting Japan and want to experience a famous outdoor onsen, this place is definitely worth it and shouldn't be missed.

GGuest UserThe staff was very good. I am very satisfied that I can enjoy the food and eat various dishes little by little. I didn't get tired of watching the murals in the bath. The staff was very happy to serve and it was a fun trip. There are few inns that I want to use again, but Tatsumi Kan wanted to use it again! Thank you.

BBenSo many little things that make this hotel much better than anything else. The way they show you to your room, the way they put your shoes away and bring them back on your departure date, the way dinner and breakfast is waiting for you at your own private table, the way they let couples share an onsen during quiet hours. My point is - you will feel like a VIP here. The staff and always there, taking care of you in subtle ways, but you never feel watched or intruded on. This kind of invisible service - maybe hard for westerners to understand, but it is excellent. You will feel like you are really being understand and looked after. Highly recommend. Best hotel service I've had in japan in 2 years of living here. Highly recommended.

GGuest UserWe were in Hoshi Onsen 25 years ago, and we loved it so much that we decided to visit it once more during our recent Japan trip. Hoshi is one of the most traditional and older onsen in Japan, with more than one hundred years of history. Walking in its corridors or lingering in Hoshi-no-yu (the main indoor bath) you can really feel as if time had completely stopped and as you have plunged in a remote era. Yet it provides any possible comfort. Important renovations have been made, but always with great taste and respectful of tradition. Dinner is excellent and also the open air bath is really beautiful. The surroundings are also very nice and deserve a walk. It is a bit expensive, but no doubt worth the price

AAnonymous UserStayed there for 2 nights as a solo traveller. Most staff couldn't speak English but tried their best to communicate via translator apps and provided excellent service. Breakfast & dinner were served in the common rooms at Level 2, and the spread was different for each day. Food was pretty decent and very generous servings. Access to the public baths & rooftop onsens are limited by timings, staff will inform you at check in. Location is excellent, very near to the Ikaho bus stop that has the buses to Shibukawa JR station. Note it is on a very steep slope so you will have difficulties if travelling with heavy suitcases. Generally a very pleasant stay, and was very warmed by the heartfelt service.

CcharrypoRemember to check the bus schedule when you go, as there are only a few buses (around 9 am, 2:30 pm, and 4 pm). Basically, you'll need to eat all three meals at the hotel. The round trip by bus down the mountain takes about 2 hours. The hotel doesn't include air conditioning. I went in early October and the temperature was 11 degrees Celsius, which was quite nice. Hiking was comfortable, and the scenery was superb. You can even ski in winter. WiFi isn't available in every hotel; the one I stayed at, the Forest Trail Inn, didn't have it—it was quite secluded! 👍

DDabby RagasaWe drove up to Manza Ski Resort. It wasn’t difficult to find but because of adverse weather conditions, we had to take the longer route. The Princes Hotel were accommodating, had good amenities for a hotel located high up in the mountains. It could do with a slight renovation, as there were leaks coming from the ceiling of the hallways. The breakfast and dinner selection which were provided by the hotel were of decent selection. The highest onsen in Japan according to locals and our Japanese friend. Better check out before the 10 AM time, otherwise a long form of queue awaits you at the reception. A beautiful experience of outdoor snow and mineralised hot Onsen.

GGuest UserThe location is very good, opposite the Zhengyi Xiangbao Hot Spring Shi Section Street, opposite the convenience store, there is a parking lot, but only a few places. The room is clean and there is an elevator. But there are not often staff in the lobby, it takes a lot of time to wait for check in, which is slightly inconvenient.
